The 2016 NHL draft takes place tonight. And with the season recently ending, you can still get your fix by betting on certain aspects of the draft. Below I will go over just some of the props. The list of available props to bet on is long, so be sure to head to the sportsbooks to see the complete list.
Important Note About Betting on the NHL Draft: Unfortunately, we can’t seem to find sportsbooks that are doing NHL Draft Betting outside of the USA & Canada. The best sportsbook for betting the NHL Draft by far is Sports Interaction which only accepts Canadians. For Americans, you have options at Bovada although not as many as Sports Interaction. If you’re outside of North America – sorry you may be SOL here.
And Canadians – this is why we constantly recommend Sports Interaction. #1 sportsbook for hockey betting.
Defenseman drafted in the 1st round: 8.5
This is an over/under bet. Will there be more or less then 8.5 defensemen taken in the first round.
This years draft is loaded with forwards but there are plenty of defensemen who could go in the first 30 picks. With Bean, Sergachev and Juolevi all expected to go in the top 10, I think that 8.5 will be passed as we will only need 6 more taken in the remaining 20 picks.
Goalies drafted in the 1st round: 0.5
Another over/under pick. Will there be a goalie taken in the 1st round.
There are some goalies who will be taken in the draft but with the players available this year I think teams can afford to wait until the later rounds to find one.
Alexander Nylander Draft position: 7.5
The top 4 picks are all but decided. For this prop we are Betting on if Nylander will be taken before or after the 8th pick. The Flames are picking 6th and they are in need or forward help. Some scouts have Nylander going as high as 4th so I think this is a safe pick that the Flames should jump on if he’s still available.
Alex DeBrincat draft position: 27.5
DeBrincat has been overlooked thanks to playing with Conner McDavid and Dylan Strome for the past 2 season. People will say that it’s thanks to playing with such elite young players that helped his game but for 2 years in a row he scored 51 goals. I’m sure a team will be more than willing to take a risk on a player who has tremendous upside.
Trades made on day 1: 6.5
As always around draft day, there are plenty of rumors floating around about trades. With the expansion draft coming up next year teams should and will look to move players sooner rather than later and risk losing them for nothing.
