Our hot streak came to an unfortunately halt yesterday, as we went 1-2. We had the Habs -1.5 and they put on a solid shift against the Carolina Hurricanes to win the game 4-1, and cover the handicap spread. We also had the Oilers and Flames to go over 5.5 goals. After a hot first period with 3 goals we then went 35 minutes without a goal. The Blackhawks, a -1.5 tip, also blew their 2 goal lead and only won in a shootout as Corey Crawford briefly fell apart.

Still, the Habs win was at nice odds of 2.6 so it was only a slight losing night.

Another busy day in the NHL today, Tuesday April 2nd, 2013. 7 games on the board tonight with a couple of tight ones. The LA Kings travel to the Phoenix Coyotes who are desperately needing a win. Senators vs Bruins promises to be a tight one, and the Sabres, whose playoff hopes are hanging by a thread, need to win at….oh, just the freaking Pittsburgh Penguins. Without Thomas Vanek.

Yikes.

Let’s get on with the NHL Betting Picks for April 2nd, 2013….

Bruins vs Senators Betting Tips: Under 5.0

In their prior 3 meetings, Boston won all 3 of them. 2-1 in OT, 3-2 in a shootout, and 2-1 in regulation. These games are always notoriously tight.

The line is no surprise set at 5 as opposed 5.5, but we’re getting pretty sick 2.05 odds on it at 5Dimes. Note: You need to register there to see their odds. I’m seeing as low as 1.80 elsewhere, so 2.05 is a fantastic price.

Ottawa got destroyed by the Leafs on the weekend 4-0. They’re going to be extremely tight defensively going into this game, and will be playing very cautious. They know how important this game is – even if they lose it, they can’t lose by a wide margin. They want to keep it tight, and I can see this one going just like 2 of the last 3 games in this series, with it being a tight 3 goal match. With a price like 2.05 I’m all over it.

Panthers vs Lightning Betting Tips: Goal In First 9:30

These two teams have played three times this year already, and it’s been goals, goals, goals. 5-2, 6-5(in OT) and 3-2. More importantly these games usually start fast. While in the first game the first goal took 11 minutes to get in, in the last two there were goals at the 48 second mark and the 96 second mark.

The over 5.5 is tempting but the odds on it are a bit low – I love this game to start fast and more than likely a nice goal very early on. Bet this at Bet365.

Capitals vs Hurricanes Betting Tips: Capitals To Win

I’m a tad nervous about this one – Washington had that spirit-killing loss against the Flyers on Saturday, and they’ve had to stew over that for a couple of days. But I’m backing them to take the Hurricanes out tonight, and bounce straight back.

Ovechkin’s been on fire lately and every game has to be treated as a Stanley Cup final for them. They’re going up against the Hurricanes who are a mess at the moment goalie wise. Ellis is back tonight it looks like but there’s pressure all over the place goalie-wise for the Hurricanes, and all these changes is never good for a team.

Really the biggest reason to bet the Capitals is the price – we’re getting a healthy 2.00 at 5Dimes on them. Can’t beat that.

Longshot Bet Of The Day: Highest Scoring Period

Here’s an additional bet for those who like the bigger odds. Panthers vs Lightning the first periods are usually high scoring – you can get 3.10 odds on this over at Bet365. Great odds for that with some nice value.
