A winning night last night as we went 2-1.

We had the Over 5 goals in the Oilers vs Rangers game and that came in with the Rangers winning 4-2. It looked like a push in a frustrating 3rd period but thankfully the Rangers slipped one in with a few seconds left to push us over and make it a nice profitable night.

We had the Minnesota Wild to beat the Canucks and they did so easily with a 6-2 thrashing.

Our loss was the Islanders beating the Panthers and it was a nice example of how difficult hockey betting can be. The Islanders coming here on a nice streak. They’re going against a Panthers team who have been hit by a flu bug, and who are missing two key players in Jagr and Bjugstad.

After the first period, where the Islanders outshot the Panthers 19-2 you’d be ready to bet your house on the Islanders. So of course the Panthers run out 5-1 winners.

Many people consider betting on hockey the toughest sport of all – and games like that are examples why.

In other news – Varlamov did it AGAIN in Chicago. I read this morning he is now 7-1 with a 1.42 GAA, .961 Save Percentage IN Chicago. While stats like that really aren’t that remarkable and are going to happen – I did enjoy this Wikipedia edit earlier today:

Alright so we’ve got two NHL games tonight. The Boston Bruins vs the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Washington Capitals vs the Ottawa Senators. Let’s get to it:

Washington Capitals vs Ottawa Senators Betting Tips:

Andrew Hammond is in net tonight for the Senators. Man – remember back in the good old days when he was awesome? I miss those.

The Sens have been leaking a fair amount of goals lately so it’s a change they need. Hammond has a lot to prove after a bit of an injury ravaged season – going up against one of the top offenses in the NHL.

Washingtons last few games have been close. The last time a game they were involved in went Over 5.5 goals was 7 games ago against the Leafs. The change of goaltender will hopefully make the Sens protect them more – and Hammond has an incredible opportunity to take the #1 spot with a good performance tonight.

Under 5.5 goals.

USA: -115 Odds at 5Dimes.
Everyone Else: 1.87 Odds at 5Dimes.

Boston Bruins vs Pittsburgh Penguins:

I’ll be honest – I hate tipping for or against the Penguins at the moment. They can go on the road and win 5-1 then get blown away at home as if it was nothing.

This is one game I won’t be tipping tonight. The one thing I DID want to tip was the Under – but the line is set at Under 5 and even though you can get 2.30 odds I just can’t justify it. Maybe if Fleury was in he’d raise his game. But I just can’t tip or bet the Bruins/Penguins tonight. The Bruins odds are too low and I just don’t have the confidence in them.

OHL Betting Tips:

In the OHL today, we’ll take the Saginaw Spirit in regulation to beat the Flint Firebirds. Evan Cormier should have no problem dealing with the Firebirds offense. 2.05 odds for that one.

You can bet the OHL at

Americans: Bovada.
Everyone Else: 888 Sports.

Im just thinking of how much of an edge does Boston get from Fleury being out? Not seeing that much hockey, and being new to it all, i can’t really figure out if it might be worth it, to put it on Boston? Maybe even in regulation. Even if he wasnt out, i’d probably still pick Boston on moneyline. Both comes here without win last game, but i just think Bruins is doing better. Again, not basing it on alot, besides my research.

It’s something that I feel is very dependent on the situation, and the team themselves.

Zatkoff has played 4 full games. Conceded 3 against Buffalo, 1 against Edmonton and then 3 against Edmonton, as well as 4 against the Devils. That’s a good sign that he’s going to be leaky tonight and they don’t trust him against the big teams.

However the Bruins are a tier above them skill wise I’d say – and the Penguins are going to be more protective of Zatkoff. I mean you’re talking about 53 shots on goal from Buffalo, 37 from Devils.

It’s one of those things where often we will just decide not to bet. Boston is probably the best bet to make – but we just don’t feel confident enough in it, and there’s enough hockey over a season that we won’t force ourselves to bet in marginal situations like this.

But like I said – if I WAS forced to bet in this I’d bet the Bruins.

Okay thanks, think i’ll just see how it plays out ^^ I find it a bit risky as well, just need to get my self some knowledge as to how much certain players are ‘worth’ , since thats kinda a big deal when betting 🙂

Your comments about betting in hockey are ‘bang on’ G.
A team may look great on paper & play with confidence which generally is enough to win but unfortunately you can’t count on it; What you can count on are upsets ( small or big) & when ‘opportunity knocks’ you win more & bet less; ie. last night: Avs +170, Cal +160, Panthers +145, Sharks +120, Oilers +170 vs Bos (Mon)
For any OHL bettors out there:
Kitchener vs London: Like the Rangers at -105 (bodog)
The Knight’s Marner, Dvorak, & Tkachuk, (top 3 goal scorers in the OHl) Juolev & #1 goalie Parsons are at World Junior camps & 4 players are suspended for 2 games; The backup Vella has a 3.79GA;
Rangers are missing lead goal scorer MacInnis to WJ camp; rookie goalie Richardson is starting and has a 1.93GA;
Both teams have excellent stats but with a depleted line up, the Rangers have a big advantage in this divisional game;
Good luck tonight!

Agree. Studying when teams have their ups and downs in terms of work ethic makes all the difference. Parity is strong in todays NHL and the power or lack of determination to win is mostly the key, there’s hardly any games where the other team is just so much better that they can just walk over their opponent without having the right mindset.

SanDiegoBruinsD

just for fun doing single parlay Sens/Caps U & Pens/Bs O. Otherwise I agree with Tips, tough night to find any value.

Decided to ride the hot goalie Holtby and felt like Rask vs Zatkoff was a good enough matchup considering the Pens offensive struggles, combined for +413. Hoping the Pens won’t make a comeback
