That was an interesting night of hockey.

I had problems coming up with tips for last night.  The games were all a coin toss in my opinion.

I went with the Jets to beat the Avalanche but the Avs came through with the 2-1 win.

The Oilers beat the Panthers 4-2 in a game that was going to be intense.  The last time these teams played, Oilers forward Matt Hendricks laid a huge hit on Aaron Ekblad and of course he had to deal with that early in the 1st period when Gudbranson laid a nice pounding on him.  Nugent-Hopkins left in the 2nd period with a hand injury which is expected to be a long term injury.

A better night for us with 5 games. Let’s get to the tips.

Bruins vs Canadiens Betting Tips:

These games are always great as its the biggest rivalry in the NHL.

The Habs are on yet another losing skid this time it’s 4 games.  The Bruins are on a 2 game win streak but are 4-5-1 over their last 10 games.

At first glance you would have to think that the Bruins are going to win this game.  But any time these teams play each other it’s always a good one.

The Bruins are ranked third in goals per game and the Habs eighth.  I like the chances of this game going Over.

Over 5

Oilers vs Lightning Betting Tips:

The Oilers were dealt yet another blow last night.  They won the game but lost Nugent-Hopkins to injury.  The list of players that have missed time for them would hurt any team.

The Lightning have found their way after stumbling through the first half of the season. They’re 7-2-1 over their last 10 games and ride a 5 game winning streak into tonight this game.

Lightning -1.5

Blackhawks vs Predators Betting Tips:

It’s hard to bet against the Blackhawks right now.   They have won their last 11 games and will go for the franchise record 12th in this one.  Kane leads the league in scoring and the Hawks are getting production from the Toews line too.

The Predators are 3-5-2 over their last 10.  They have lost 2 of the 3 games against Chicago so far this season.

Blackhawks win

Edm/TB
Bolts have the offense to beat the Oilers by 2 or more goals & have the stats to support it:
in 5/5 of their last 5gms, they scored 3+goals, they rank 14th in GF 2.60 but more importantly 6th in GA 2.31;
Overall, the Oilers rank 24th GF 2.36 & 26th GA 2.87; I assume Nilsson 2.95 GA will start;
*the only reason I would shy away from the -1.5 is the Oilers last 4/5gms ended by 1 goal; Bolts beat Edm on Jan 8th 3-2 & the Bolts last 3/5 ended by 1goal but Oilers are playing a btob & 4gms in 6 nights & hopefully fatigue affects their goal production;

Wash/Clb
All the stats suggest a Caps win in regulation or -1.5: they rank 2nd GF, 1st GA, 2nd PP 4th PK;
Not sure if Holtby is starting but if not, Grubauer 2.12GA relieved Holtby in the last 2gms so he’s not completely cold;
On the flipside, jackets are 20th GF, 30th GA, 21st PP, 12th Pk;
*If the Caps have the leadership to lead by example & respect their opponent, stick to their game plan & support Grubauer, this should be a ‘gimme.’

Good luck tonight!

I don’t understand why you guys are not tipping the Blackhawks to beat the Preds? Chicago comes in having won 11 consecutive games. Rinne has lost four straight games while posting a 3.90 GAA and .833 SV%. Rinne surrendered five goals on 24 shots in the Predators loss in Winnipeg last Thursday. Crawford is confirmed and he’s been great on this run. This has Blackhawks win and possible spanking all over it. So why is it only -115?

I like Flyers, Caps, Bolts and Blackhawks in 2-way round robin/parlay.

They did tip the Hawks to win, just in ML. And i think it’s a smart move considering the Preds always play well against the Hawks at home. I actually think there’s a good chance for OT. Preds got rid of their frustration with the win vs Wild and i think this is the perfect game to build on that, they’re going to leave everything they have on the ice.

thank you, I initially missed the Hawks tip. I revised my post 🙂

Blackhawks line has moved from -115 to -110. What do odds makers know that we don’t know?

for all you Habs fans out there here’s a good article on their woes:

I think my favourite thing about that article is all the comments, where they all have a solution but it’s a different solution.

Personally I think it’s a mental issue more than anything else. That’s a huge factor in hockey that a lot of people underestimate. The Panthers at the moment are an excellent example of that.

I’m confident that if Price comes back, we blitz everyone and make the playoffs with ease. And I’m just as confident that if he gets injured again promptly then we’re looking at that #2 draft pick. (As Oilers will no doubt take #1 again no matter where they’re seeded).

Graeme,
I couldn’t agree more with you. The grind of getting up for games every other day and having to travel across the country takes its toll. Once a team loses that chemistry it’s very difficult to get it back. I think the Stars are another example of that this season. However, the Habs have a lot of talent and cream rises to the top. They’ll be in the hunt come playoff time but I don’t think anyone is going to get by the Caps in the conference.
