Well – we had a profitable opening month to the NHL season, but it could have been better. We hit a few ruts in the road in the last couple of days with a 1-2 night last night.

We got the night off to a winning start with our betting tip of the Leafs to beat the Blue Jackets. They dominated for the win there – and it’s one of those annoying wins where it’s so dominant that rather than revel in a win, instead it’s like “damnit why didn’t I bet in regulation time or the handicap”. Either way, Leafs saved us from a bad night and we appreciate that!

We lost with the Flames vs Predators game. We had under 5 goals but after a goalless 1st period – there were 3 goals in the 2nd and 4 in the 3rd. That was frustrating – especially with Flames missing Backlund, Stajan and Colborne. The young guys stepped up last night though.

We also lost the Over 5.5 bet with Stars vs Ducks. The game was very low on shots – despite the fact that there was approximately a million freaking penalties and power plays. Stars are now 1-0-4 on home ice which is just sad to see.

Onto November we go:

Islanders vs Sharks Betting Tips:

We’re going Over 5.5 goals in this one.

The Islanders offense was shut out for the first time this season against the Avs. Other than that they have been on fire. San Jose also only have one shutout to themselves.

Both teams – especially the Sharks – are leaking goals too though. These two teams played earlier in October where the Islanders won 4-3 in a shootout.

We’re expecting a similar battling game with a lot of goals by both teams.

bet Over 5.5 goals at 1.83 odds.

Sabres vs Penguins Betting Tips:

This one is eerily reminiscent of a tip I remember writing last season. It still haunts me. That tip was on November 5th, 2013 when I tipped the Sharks to beat the Sabres. Sharks were 1.23 odds to win which says it all. Buffalo went into the game with just TWO wins in SIXTEEN games. Sharks went into that game with 10 wins in 14 games, and looking just dominant.

Sharks were going into that one on the back of 2 tough overtime losses, and we expected them to EXPLODE against the Sabres. Instead Buffalo got the shootout victory, which I’m pretty sure was the biggest upset of the 2013/2014 season when it came to betting odds.

Either way – we have to go for it again. Penguins are scoring goals for fun. Buffalo already got their upset victory of the season by beating the Sharks 2-1 last week.

Penguins -1.5. 1.74 odds. And if you’re feeling risky you can also give them an additional handicap at Sports Interaction (Exclusive: $20 Free Bet for Canadians) or for Americans try out Bovada and everyone else Bet365.com.. They currently have Penguins -2 at 2.00 and Penguins -2.5 at 2.37. We’re happy with the 1.74 though.

It’s the right bet – and if we lose, then it gives us all something to bitch about down at the pub during the week, much like a casual poker player complains about his aces being cracked.

Oilers vs Canucks Betting Tips:

This is the third game between the two. In the first one, the Canucks won 5-4 in a shootout, and in the second game the Canucks won 2-0.

Since those games, the Oilers have gotten their act together. Actually after the Canucks 2-0 loss they rebounded with 4 wins in a row before losing to Nashville(when we tipped them of course). But now they’re on the road. Canucks have a solid record at home when it comes to scoring goals, with 5 games played and 3 games with 4 goals scored. Plus another game they put 2 past Price which is worth about 6 goals considering how damn good he is.

Oilers have the confidence in their offense now and know they can score. They’ll also be out seeking revenge for those two losses. We like this to be a good open game and feel the Canucks front line can open the Oilers up enough to push this one over.

Over 5.5 goals at 1.90 odds.

i read that starting goaltenders are one of the most important thing in capping a game. I am new to following your picks & am wondering why or how you can get your picks out 1st thing in the morning not knowing what goalies are starting?

Adam

In the games they give tips on today, goalies will not factor in. Starting goalies will be more important in the other games though. The Pens could put Malkin’s mother in net vs the sabres and it won’t change much. You’ll want to do your research on the Avs game as well as the Dallas game though.

We try and get our picks out as early as possible because (1) we have a lot of European visitors so it’s late afternoon by the time we post the tips for them, and (2) people just want tips early. By 9am EST we’ve usually got a few thousand hits in traffic already.

In regard to goaltenders – you generally already know that early in the morning. Whether it’s just knowing how a team rotates, or by early team news etc – I’d say we know with 98% accuracy who is going to be starting in goal when it comes to the tips we actually publish.

If there is a big question over who the goaltender will be and we feel it is a significant factor – we will either just not tip that game, or give a tip like “We’re betting the Habs but only IF Price is in goal. Wait until that is confirmed before betting”.

Good tips mate. I’m definitely going to place some of these NHL bets to go along with my betting tips for Invicta FC tonight.
