(Apologies for the lateness in posting this – a site Graeme uses was down for most of the morning and then he got busy)
April 20th will see the final series kick off, as the Oilers host the Ducks.
We’ve also got a few game 2s. Always such an exciting time with playoff hockey after playoff hockey!
Yesterday saw some bangers, with three of the four teams using home ice to their advantage, and a big, biiig win for the Habs in Tampa.
Let’s cover the series first and then the Game 2s:
Oilers vs Ducks Series Betting Tips:
Scott: Gauthier, Carlsson, Sennecke, Terry and Kreider will do the heavy lifting for them offensively. For depth they have McTavish, Granlund, Killorn and Poehling. On defense its Carlson, LaCombe, Mintyukov and Trouba. In goal it’s Dostal who’s backed up by Husso
Could this be the year the Oilers finally win the Cup?
McDavid is the best player on the planet. Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, Hyman and Podkolzin can also bury. On defense it’s Bouchard, Nurse, Murphy, Ekholm and Walman. In goal is where they, and really most teams, have issues. They acquired Jarry and he has been fine. If he struggles they will go with Ingram.
The Ducks had a good year and they will be a tough team but they don’t have as much playoff experience.
Oilers in 5 but will go with Oilers -1.5 at 1.80.
Graeme: As mentioned in the intro I am the cause of the delay here so my write-ups are going to be really short. The Ducks offense is better than Oilers in many metrics and should be able to provide a fight at least. Oilers have a lot of experience though which should be a factor. In theory a lot of high scoring games. I think the Oilers playoff pedigree will be enough to see them through, but they have a lot of issues
I could see an Oilers 4-2 sorta win so will go with Oilers -1.5 at 1.80.

Penguins vs Flyers Game 2 Betting Tips:
Scott: The Flyers won game one thanks to keeping the Pens shots down and having a rookie score the game winner was insane. The Pens will have to be careful as a performance like the one the Flyers got from Martone can give a team a huge boost.
They’ll need to get Crosby going and Malkin had 1 of each in game 1. Can’t lose both games in Pittsburgh.
Penguins win incl OT (which was 1.70 earlier at most books although dropped slightly)
Graeme: Quite concerned for the Penguins that their xG was so low. CF/60 wasn’t bad but the Flyers really did a good job at shutting them down. I didn’t think they’d win that battle on Game 1. I’ll also go with Penguins win incl OT here.

Hurricanes vs Senators Game 2 Betting Tips:
Scott: Game 1 was a close one. I wonder if the Tkachuk vs Staal fight at the opening faceoff affected the Sens as you could argue that Staal won the tilt.
The Canes should win this game before the series moves to Ottawa for the next two games. I expect another close game so I’m going with including overtime. Not the best odds but this is the playoffs.

Graeme: I saw enough from Ottawa in that game to take them at better than 50/50 odds. Sens OT
Stars vs Wild Game 2 Betting Tips:
Scott: The Wild dominated game 1. They scored 4 goals before the Stars could get one. The Stars will have to fix their penalty kill as they allowed 3 powerplay goals.
The Stars have to win this game. They can’t get rocked like that at home and expect to have any chance at winning this series.
Stars win incl OT 1.80 odds.
Graeme: Wild just had everything going for them in that last game. Stars are a concern and their mentality has been weird this season. Big test of their character here. The Stars lone goal was a high danger goal which I talked about. Wild did a decent job in game 1 of stifling that to a degree although the game script affects that too.
Feel like we see a more open game here and I’m going with Over 6 incl OT
