Alrighty welcome to Friday. It’s the weekend, the Jays are back in the game, and we’ve got a decent little NHL schedule. 4 games Friday, 4 games Sunday. I can handle that.
Hopefully a better outing for me compared to last weekend, when the pre-season data let me down. At least I got a nice reminder why I shouldn’t bet a game involving teams who played within the last couple of days.
That’s something I usually avoid, and after that second Penguins/Rangers result – I’ll be sure to avoid that trap going forward.
Anyone else playing BallXPit? I used to be such a fan of Arkanoid back in the day, and I get stupidly hooked to Roguelite games so this is right up my alley. I won’t lie – I had NHL, TNF and MLB going last night and probably paid more attention to that stupid game on my phone.
Before we get into todays tips, I want to mention a project that a long-time follower has started. He actually forwarded me e-mails from back in 2013 when he started following us which I thought was cool.
It’s called Bet2Invest and features autobetting, an automation tool which syncs your account with tipster recommendations.
They also have a large selection of tipsters on their site, covering avariety of sports with lots of great stat tracking. Check it out.
Let’s look at todays games – at least now we have SOME regular season advanced metrics to play with, although I’ll still be cautious.
Capitals vs Wild:
Capitals slight favourites, come in with a bit of mixed results. Wild after a strong start have been a disappointment.
By the early metrics – its the Wild defense that is letting them down. Capitals meanwhile aren’t scoring a lot but creating a fair amount. Close one, but I think the odds seem pretty damn on.
Wings vs Lightning:
After a poor opening, the Wings are on a tear. Tampa are having some fun high scoring games.
Wings better CF& and FF%. Scoring more, conceding less, xG all looks good. SCG stats solid.
The only negative to taking the Wings is – not enough data. But they are playing well, Appleton is on fire at the moment, Wings look like they have confidence, Raymond might be back.
I think there is value in the Wings. However the concern is they have announced Gibson in net, who DID get off to a horrific start, and I am concerned about regression.
One of those where I’m happy to back the Wings myself, but that goalie selection makes it juuust a bit too tight to advise.
Blackhawks vs Canucks:
Hawks are out swinging at the moment beating up on the Blues and Mammoth. Canucks mixed results to open the season, losing at home to the Blues then thumping Dallas.
Both teams a bit too erratic at the moment. Very slight lean on Hawks but the data makes it a crapshoot.
Mammoth vs Sharks:
The Utah Mammoth got their first regulation win of the season, beating the Flames 3-1 in their home opener, which was cool to see.
Now they are at home looking to follow it up against the Sharks.
I mean I could see it but I’d pretty much have to back them at the handicap for value.
Based on the Sharks defensive metrics thus far I don’t hate it. Just from watching the games it doesn’t appear to be anomalies.
But I will err on the side of caution and stay away.
So no tips. Wings is closest but the Gibson play has me concerned.

Not a lot to pick from, but
Chicago on the reverse puckline of +1.5, at X1.48
looks like easy money. Vancouver is on a back-to-back on the road, while Chicago is playing well, had a day off and is at home.
