Isles rookie Schaefer tied the NHL record for the longest point streak to begin a career by a defenseman when he had a goal and an assist and the Isles beat the Sharks 4-3.  Marchand made his return to Boston and had a nice video tribute when the Panthers beat the Bruins 4-3.

McDavid scored his first of the season when the Oilers beat the Sens 3-2 in OT.  The Devils beat the Leafs 5-2, the Pens beat the Canucks 5-1, the Mammoth beat the Avs 4-3 in a shootout and the Jackets beat the Stars 5-1.

Only 3 games tonight.

Wild vs Devils

The Wild havent had any consistency this season.  They seem to mix wins and losses which makes it hard to gain any ground in the standings.

The Devils played the Leafs last night and won.  They are now on a 5 game win streak.

The Wild are hard to get a read on and the Devils played last night and will be going with Daws in goal who is making his season debut.  I have to pass here.

Red Wings vs Sabres

The Wings are on a 5 game win streak.  Its not like the wins were easy either with the Oilers, Lightning, Panthers and the Leafs twice.

The Sabres are a team I have zero confidence in at the moment.  They ended their 3 game losing skid with 2 wins but got back to their losing ways against the Habs.

Wings win incl OT/SO

Canadiens vs Flames

The Habs have been playing well so far this season.  Sure its a small sample size but if they can keep it up I dont see why they cant battle for a playoff spot.

The Flames on the other hand have been brutal.  After barely winning game 1 in a shootout against the Oilers they have now lost 6 straight.

The Flames are ranked last in GPG and 30th in GAPG.  The Habs are 7th and 14th.

I would like to take the Habs here but Guhle is out, Dach and Laine are out.  Just too many injuries right now.

If the hockey gods have whispered into the ears of the Red Wings, “hey, we hope you understand the position you’ve put yourselves in! Gather the points!”, then the Wings will not take this game lightly and will be encouraged by their near-term upcoming schedule too.

The Wings are off a 2-day rest and have only Kane listed as out. The Sabres have 7 players out and if you exclude their 8-goal game against lowly Ottawa (Sens have the league’s worst Goals Against), the Sabres offense is horrible. Detroit takes the FEWEST PENALTIES in the NHL and Buffalo is 9th worst (30min VS 74min so far). Detroit’s penalty kill is 92%. This should be a tilted ice game. I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes 5-1 or steeper.

The general pattern so far IS that Detroit wins on the puckline, and Buffalo loses on the puckline.

To WIN moneyline: Detroit
Strong lean: WIN puckline: Detroit = x3.00
Lean: Detroit puckline -2.5 = x4.20

I’m digging for prop bets on this game. Team Total for Detroit is expected to be a minimum of 3, probably 4 or 5 no problem. Current odds for 2.5+ goals TT Detroit is x1.55. Holy Jumpin’ Lizards, Batman!

I’m not going for the full game OVER, because Buffalo may be held off the scoresheet and not contribute. Too risky.

Lean: To WIN: Montreal moneyline
Flames can’t score and the Habs are off to a solid start. The Goal Differential between these teams gives Montreal a 20 goal advantage. Flames rack up a lot of time in the penalty box and have a leaky penalty kill. Montreal plays the Jets next, so should want these 2 points.

Wow! Excellent analysis and I agree upon the “two winning teams”. Those were my choices for tonight as well. Thank you for additional insights!

I cant believe the Flames management decided their “style” of play (rough as shit) will be the way the last few considering how abysmal the penalty kill is,
