Another 2-1 night last night.

We had the Capitals to beat the Sabres and they won 2-0.  Holtby had a big game making 31 saves for the shutout. With the win the Caps are only 2 points behind the Stars for 1st place in the league with 2 games in hand.

We had over 5 in the Canadiens vs Lightning game.  The Habs picked up the much needed win 4-3 in the shootout.

The loss of the night was the Rangers to pick up the win against the Preds but the Preds won 5-3.  Lundqvist got beat for 5 goals and has allowed 4 or more goals in 7 of his last 13 games.

There was a comment in the tips yesterday asking about the odds for the tip of the Rangers.  The Odds change throughout the day so the odds I post are what I find at that time and may be different then the ones you see depending on when you look at them.

Another busy night of NHL action with 10 games.

Stars vs Blue Jackets Betting Tips:

It’s the NHL leading Stars vs the last place Jackets.

Not really much to say about this game.  These teams last played each other on December 15th and it was the Stars winning 5-1.

The Jackets limp into this game on a 3 game losing streak.  The Stars are 7-2-1 over their last 10.  Not sure who gets the call in this one but the Stars are set in goal with both Lehtonen and Niemi more than  capable.

Stars in regulation

Kings vs Oilers Betting Tips:

The Kings pounded the Canucks 5-0 last night thanks in large part to Tyler Toffoli and his hat trick.  Over the last 10 games against the Oilers the Kings are 8-1-1 and average 4 goals a game.

The Oilers allow 3.07 goals per game which has them ranked 27th.

This is the third meeting between these teams with the Kings winning the first two; 3-2 and 4-3

Over 5

Value Bet: Canadiens vs Panthers:

Canadiens win is the tip for this one.  I’m sure people will think I’m crazy but the value of this makes it worth the risk.

The Panthers are rolling along right now winning 6 in a row and are 7-3 over their last 10.

The Habs have been brutal of late.  But after last night and their hard fought victory against the Lightning you have to think that momentum will help them in this one.

Plus the Habs are going with the recently acquired Ben Scrivens who will make his season debut.  It may be a boost for Montreal who are in desperate need of a goalie who will be consistent.

Today Picks.
I think most of games will be finished without surprises.

Bruins win
Stars win
Devils win
Islanders win
Blues win

Risky ones,

Red wings win
Blackhawks win
Ducks win
Canadiens win

You can pick which ever you want. I advise you to bet on max 2. If you win then go on tomorrow 😉 winning less is always better than lose all.

ML Leafs – Leafs repeat their win against the up-and-down Islanders. Furthermore I see the Islanders weaker on the road than at home.

ML Blues – Two games against strong teams within two days are one too much. Predators will be tired.

Bruins Win – Bruins will get back strong after two disappointing games after Christmas break. Senators are not stable enough to beat the twice.

Ducks, Canadiens and Jets in regulatations. Senators wins.
Last night i put 1/5 unit on 4 players to score anytime in game. Duchene, Datsyuk, Nash and D. Sedin. Lost only one.
Any ideeas for tonight?

Hey Scott. I like the value pick. I think the Habs can ride the momentum for another game. It may be a btob but this could help them without too much time in between games to keep a positive attitude. This may be Scrivens debut, but teams tend to play smarter & protect the new goalie more than the #1 goalie. We saw that with Condon, Sparks, and backups like Pickard, Raanta & Ullmark. Panthers are a good team, no question, but there’s no reason the Habs can’t win. A little ‘puck luck’ can’t hurt either. 🙂 Good luck tonight!

Scott,
Love the site btw. For tonight I also like the Kings over and also to win. They are playing well and I expect that they will out score the Oilers tonight.
I also like the Flames game to go over .the Ducks do scare me here in that you cant on them to score. I think that with their success against the Flames that they will get a couple.
I don’t like the Montreal pick Panthers just to hot to go against right now. Montreal of course is able to win any game just think Florida will win this one.
I also would stay away from Boston right now not been very good at home. I would instead go with Dallas to win (not that you picked Boston)

Jets moneyline and Flames moneyline.

Detroit Red wings vs Winnipeg Jets

Jets to win.

Computer calculated win chance 54.7% with the current price this would not be a good value +EV bet, but I still think it is worth it personally imo.

Jets are ranked 2 places above the Wings in my team rating system.

Wings played last night in a tough game, losing to the Wild.
Jets are well rested, coming off the back of a win over the Penguins.

The last times these teams played each other all the games were really close. The series went 2-2 and the road teams exchanged wins each time. I think this will have to end soon and it will be about time one of the home side wins.

Winnipeg has won 5 of its past 6 games at MTS Centre in December and in the past 2 home wins, the road team has played Minnesota the night before- just as it will be tonight.

Anaheim Ducks vs Calgary Flames

Flames to win.

Computer calculated win % is 54.9% at current price of 1.86 this gives a +EV of 2.11%.

Flames are ranked 19 places above the Ducks in my team rating system.

Flames have an awesome record at home currently and are seeking their 12th straight win against the Ducks.

Ducks are a bit out of sort this year with a pretty poor record by their standard of 13-15-6, whilst the Flames have been playing really well lately and are 17-16-2 this season.

The last game that the sides met, the Ducks won 4-2, but they scored 3 late goals in the 3rd period to snatch the game from the tips of Calgary. The Flames will want revenge for that match.

Man, Holtby is the story of the year. No wonder the Caps have so many wins when Holtby is fired up for every single game. I really thought the Sabres could take that game into OT but not against that type of goaltending. Other than that a decent round, Kings and Wild with the wins but unfortunately Weise managed to tie it up for the Canadiens. Avs won but Sharks @ 1.93 seemed too fishy anyways so that was an automatic pass.

This round has the potential for a real diamond. Earlier this year we had a round of something like 7 OT games (dont quote me on that). Tonight could be the same type of hockey night. Predicting a very tough round for home teams with virtually no home regulation wins, as there are many hungry teams looking for a win on the road. Not going to post any explanations as 10 games is a lot.

Confident picks:

Isles @ Maple Leafs – Draw 3.95
Stars @ Blue Jackets – Draw 3.90
Panthers – 2.06
Red Wings – 2.75

Less confident picks but could still be worth a shot due to good odds:

Sens @ Bruins – Draw 4.00
Devils – 2.50
Predators – 3.10
Ducks – 2.70
Hawks @ Coyotes – Draw 4.05
Kings @ Oilers – Draw 3.95

Don’t really agree with tonights tips other than the over 5 goals. I think that’s spot on.

Good luck 🙂

Agree with both Dal in regulation and King/Edm over 5.

Ross Taunton

Hi scott, Avid reader from Aust… you may not have the attention of one of our largest betting sites sportsbet.com.au, but i do my degenerate gambling there… they have a bet line –
both teams to score/60 min double – easy to explain.
stars today @ $2.10
SP paying $1.87 Stars in regulation + $1.06 both teams to score = $1.98 ( would be the combined total)
