It was a good night last night for the tips, as we went 2-0.
We had the Anaheim Ducks to beat the Calgary Flames in regulation and they did just that. It was a solid performance from the Ducks and Kesler grabbed two goals in a nice win for the Ducks.
We also had the New York Rangers over the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets proved to be a feisty team as expected but the better team won there with a very solid performance by the Rangers. Their offense is just on fire this season with 5 goals from 5 different players in this one.
Feel bad for anyone on Dallas yesterday. After that 3rd period on Saturday night I could see why people would take the Stars and it looks like they had a fair bit of action – it was a nice value play. Those Blackhawks though – man are they rolling. It looks like we’re passing the high variable stage of the season and getting into the part where you can count more on the better team winning.
With last nights win, the Oilers are joint top of the West. Very impressive.
Just three games tonight and all early ones. Sadly with Monday Night Football it’ll still be a late night for me. Oh well. We’ve got the Buffalo Sabres taking on the Boston Bruins, the Tampa Bay Lightning visiting Florida to take on the Panthers, and the Islanders take on the Canucks.
Bruins vs Sabres Betting Tips:
The stats don’t fully justify this one but I’m going with Over 5 Goals.
Despite the injuries, Buffalo are doing a fairly good job. Part of that is Lehner who has been fairly solid in net and is expected to start tonight. The Bruins situation isn’t confirmed yet. Rask may have picked up a slight injury and they may rest him again. If so MacIntyre is in net who has an inflated GAA – poor kid was hung out to dry against the Rangers last month.
Neither game is setting the world on fire with goals per game(tied for 25th GPG) and Buffalo currently have a Top 5 defense. This is just an instinct play more than anything where it just feels like it will go over.
Over 5 Goals.
Canucks vs Islanders Betting Tips:
Oh I’m probably going to regret this one in the morning.
I’m taking Canucks to win. I liked the fight they showed against the Leafs. I think that may reinvigorate them. Islanders are without Hamonic. Islanders are coming off some crushing OT losses as well as that 6-1 thumping by Tampa.
The stats don’t back my play up here at all. Despite their struggles the Islanders are 4-3-2 at home. Canucks are 0-4-1 on the road. Canucks easily have the worst offense in the league while the Islanders defense is only slightly below average. But whatever – last night when I looked at the games to discuss them with Scott I liked the Canucks, and I’m going to back them tonight.
(I see the line moving down I’d probably bet it down to 2.55)
Other Game Thoughts – No Tip:
Lightning vs Panthers: Tampa are the better team and Florida have some concerns with their goaltending at the moment. Tampa should be able to beat the Panthers but I can’t count on them at this price. Their road form is rocky and they’ve had a lot of inconsistent performances. They are who I’d lean towards but I really see this as a 50/50 game so the odds don’t justify a bet on either side.
