Yesterday, I previewed the Central Division for the NHL 2022/2023 season.
Today I will be reviewing the Atlantic Division.
The Central Division had the Avalanche as heavy, heavy favourites.
However for the Atlantic Division, things are a bit closer.
We have 3 teams who are generally considered favourites to take this one in the Leafs, Panthers and Lightning.
All the teams in the Division are listed below and also listed are the odds for them to win the division. The odds will change but this is a list of what we find at Bet365 as a guideline:
- Leafs: 3.00
- Panthers: 3.20
- Lightning: 3.25
- Bruins: 9.00
- Red Wings: 26.00
- Senators: 26.00
- Sabres: 26.00
- Canadiens: 81.00

Atlantic Division Winners Betting Tips
My pick to win the Atlantic Division is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Leafs lost in the first round again but it was in 7 games against the defending champs the Lightning who went on to the finals.
They are a stacked team offensively. Matthews is a threat to score 60 goals, Marner scored a career high 35 and on the 2nd line they have Tavares and Nylander. They lost a few players in the off-season like Kase, Spezza and Blackwell but replaced them with Gaudette, Jarnkrok and Aube-Kubel.
On defense they still have Reilly as their number 1. He’s joined by Brodie, Giordano and Muzzin to form a solid top 4. They lost Lyubushkin but brought in Jordie Benn and Victor Mete.
The biggest changes the Leafs made was to their goaltending. Gone are Campbell and Mrazek and in come Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov. They will push each other for starts and that a good problem to have.
If the goaltending holds up. Which I think it will, I don’t see a reason not to like the Leafs chances here. They can score and have some depth and both forward and defense.

Atlantic Division Betting Analysis
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning come into the season with basically the same team as last year.
They are still a strong and deep team at forward. Point, Kucherov, Stamkos and Hagel should do most of the heavy lifting. They lost Palat which is a big loss but brought in Namestnikov to try and replace him.
Hedman and Sergachev are great and give them two of the better defensemen in the league. They lost McDonough and Rutta but still have Cernak, Bogosian and brought in veteran Ian Cole.
Vasilevskiy always has a chance to win the Vezina and lead the league in victories for the 5th consecutive year.
They are a great team who could challenge for top spot in the Atlantic but they have played a bunch of hockey over the last 3 seasons. Winning two Cups and going to the finals last year. It surely has to catch up to them.

Florida Panthers
The Panthers won the Atlantic Division last season and the Presidents Trophy.
They are a deep team but they made a trade involving their best player. The traded Huberdeau, who had 115 points in 80 and received Matthew Tkachuk who put up 104 for the Flames. They still have Reinhart and Barkov and get secondary scoring from Duclair and Bennett.
Ekblad, Forsling, Montour and Gudas are thier top 4 with newly added Marc Staal and Michael Del Zotto the bottom pairing.
Bobrovsky put together his best season since 2019 and he is backed up by Knight who’s a 21 year old just waiting to take over the starting roll.
There was lots of movement up and down the roster and they brought in Paul Maurice as head coach so there may be some adjustments that take time.

Boston Bruins
The Bruins still have one of the best 1st lines in the league with Bergeron, Marchand and Pastrnak. Krejci returns after playing a season in his native Czechia and the acquired Pavel Zacha. Those two plus Taylor Hall give them a decent top 6. They also have Coyle and DeBrusk for scoring depth.
On defense they are set. The have McAvoy, Lindholm, Carlo and Grzelcyk as their top 4.
In goal they go with Swayman and Ullmark who will split duties.
They are a good team but they lack the depth that other teams in the division have.

Ottawa Senators
The Sens are trying to speed up their rebuild.
They brought in DeBrincat and Giroux who join Norris, Tkachuk, Batherson and Stutzle to give them a solid top 6.
On defense they are led by Chabot but also have help coming in Jake Sanderson and Erik Brannstrom.
They acquired Cam Talbot who joins Anton Forsberg and they should spilt starts.
They are a couple years away but with the players they pi ked up and the continued improvement of their young players, the Sens are headed in the right direction.

Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres are in trouble again this season.
They have Skinner, Thompson and Olofsson as their top line and they aren’t going to scare many teams. For depth they have Cozens, Tuch, Okposo and Jack Quinn.
On defense is where they are strongest. The have Owen Power who didn’t look at out place in his small sample size last year. He joins Dahlin and the two of them could be massive pieces for the Sabres moving forward.

Detroit Red Wings
The Wings are in the middle of their rebuild.
The brought in Copp, Kubalik and Perron to help ease the pain of a rebuild. They still have Larkin, Bertuzzi and Raymond but need more help.
On D they have Seider who’s only 21 and has lots of potential. They drafted Edvinsson and he is expected to play this season. They brought in Chiarot and Matta so their defense is okay.
In goal the brought in Husso who joins Nedeljkovic and they should split starts until one pulls away from the other.
Still years away from challenging for Atlantic lead.

Montreal Canadiens
The Habs seem like they are on the right track for a rebuild.
The picked up Slafkovsky 1st overall in the draft, acquired Kirby Dach and Sean Monahan who should do well with new team. The already have Nick Suzuki and Cole Caulfield so the team is all young and full of potential.
Defense is weak. Matheson comes in and is the new #1 defenseman they have. Petry, Romanov and Weber are all gone.
Price isn’t expected to play this year so without him the Canadiens are in trouble.
