There were no unanimous NHL Tips yesterday. In individual picks Scott went 2-1 and Graeme went 1-1.

The Vegas Knights are the first team to make it to the next round, and they did it with a complete sweep of the Los Angeles Kings. Just like the regular season, they had many doubters yet they beat the Kings in 4 tight games with a combination of hard work, solid defense, great goaltending and creative offense. They now have a rest period before they match up against the Sharks or the Ducks. Spoiler: it’ll be the Sharks.

Washington got a much needed win over the Jackets in yet another hard fought game. The Jackets are a very tricky team and you can’t relax for even a moment around them because if you do, they strike. Props to the Capitals for doing the business in overtime – Jackets have been OT specialists this year so that’s a confidence boosting win.

The Jets defeated the Wild 2-0. There was the surprise injury news that hit late afternoon that Parise was going to be out. Just a reminder that it’s best not to get too jumpy with placing bets until the last minute. We get our tips up nice and early for the European crowd but we’re still not actually placing our bets until later in the day – unless there’s a juicy line that we feel is going to drop.

It’s Wednesday, April 18th and a busy night with 4 games on the board. Let’s get to it:

Penguins vs Flyers Game 4 Betting Tips:

Scott:  These teams had two days off between games, so the extra rest is going to benefit both of them.

This series could go the distance.  Two state rivals with a long history.   The Flyers need to start taking more shots.  They have been outshot in 8 of the 9 periods of this series.  And with the extra time off between games I’m sure the Flyers had time to address this.

They have alternated wins so far and with the Flyers still at home I like that trend to continue.

Flyers win incl OT – 0.5u

Graeme: I’ve seen lopsided playoff series like this before – where for whatever reason, both teams just trade wins constantly. There’s no rhyme or reason for it – it’s just one of those things. Now in saying that, in Game 2 the Flyers win I thought the Penguins played extremely well and things just didn’t go their way.

I considered the over but the way these two teams have been playing it’s tough to say – could be another one sided blowout for either team.

However with the way things are going, I’m quite happy to back the home team when they’re big underdogs in a playoff AND rivalry game. Couturier possibly won’t play and if he is won’t be 100% so a smaller play. Flyers to win incl OT – 0.5u

Similar to the Parise injury, Couturier we’re not sure will play or not. If you’re outside of Canada we’d advise waiting to hear on that – if he’s out the odds of the Flyers should jump.

Lightning vs Devils Game 4 Betting Tips:

Scott: The Lightning allowed the Devils to score 4 goals in the 3rd to come away winners and make a series of this.

The Bolts need to cut down on their penalties,  they gave the Devils 7 powerplay chances in game 3. Schneider looked great in his return to action for the Devils making 34 saves in the win.

The Lightning are going to come back ready in this game.  But the odds aren’t great for a Lightning win incl OT and I’m not confident taking them in regulation

No Bet

Graeme: Loved the Lightning vs Devils Game 3 as it kept the Devils in it. I wasn’t sure if they had a performance like that in them so I’m glad they were able to.

I think Tampa are going to have to realize that they can’t slug it out and rely on goaltending or defense. They’ve had a lot of flaws in that area especially during the second half of the season – and the Devils exposed them. Tampa is going to have to get back on the offense first track – and so I’m quite happy to take Over 6 Goals incl OT for 1u.

Avalanche vs Predators Game 4 Betting Tips:

Scott: The Predators have looked like garbage in the first periods of the 3 games in this series.  They have been out scored 5-0 so far in the 1st periods combined.

If they could play a strong game for the full 60 minutes they could be up 3-0.

I expect a better effort from the Predators in the 1st period in this game and with that they will cruise to a win.

Predators in regulation – 1u

Graeme: One thing I hate about betting during the playoffs is you feel you’re just repeating yourself, and it’s going to cost you. Take this serious – I’ve backed the over in the last two games and it’s came in. The Preds are scoring and the better team but the Avs are feisty and still hanging with them. Has anything really changed? Nope. I’m not seeing anything to suggest I tip anything but Avs/Preds Over 6 incl OT for 1u.

Sharks vs Ducks Game 4 Betting Tips:

Scott:  The Sharks won twice in Anaheim then returned home to San Jose and destroyed the Ducks 8-1 in game 3.

The Sharks made the Ducks look bad in game 3 so even if Anaheim losses tonight they will go out swinging.

Game 1 had 3 goals, game 2 had 5 and game 3 had 9.  With their backs against the wall I expect the Ducks to score more goals in this game than they have during this whole series.  And the Over/Under is 5 so I’ll be taking over

Over 5 incl OT – 1u

Canada: 1.74 Odds at Bet365.
USA: -130 Odds at 5Dimes.
Everyone Else: 1.74 Odds at Bet365.

(Odds correct as of 2018/04/18 9:51:53 AM EST but are subject to change.)

Graeme: Stick a fork in them becaues the Ducks are done. Absolutely woeful performances. If they pull off some Game 4 miracle so be it, but I’m quite happy to back Sharks in reg for 1u.

Canada: 2.02 Odds at Pinnacle Sports.
USA: -106 Odds at 5Dimes.
Everyone Else: 2.02 Odds at Pinnacle Sports.
