Looking back at yesterday’s tips there is nothing that I would change. It was just bad luck.

We had over 6.5 In the Oilers vs Leafs game.  The last 4 times they played it was 5 and over.  But last night just wasn’t meant to be. Mcelhinny and Brossoit were strong in this game and the Leafs won 1-0.

Next we had the Blues to win in regulation against the Sabres.  This looked good with the Blues up 2-0 at the start of the 3rd but the Sabres scored 2 of their own in the final period to force OT.  Tarasenko scored with 36 seconds left in OT and the Blues won 3-2.

The other action of the night was the Blackhawks beating the Coyotes 3-1.  This was a quiet game and all of the offense came in the 3rd period.  The Wild beat the Sharks 4-3 in OT.  Staal scored twice for the Wild and Burns scored twice for the Sharks.

It’s Monday and we have a decent night of action with 6 games scheduled.

Capitals vs Islanders Betting Tips:

On the year the Caps are averaging 3.07 GPG and the Isles 3.55.  Their defenses haven’t been very good though with the Caps allowing 2.93 GPG and the Isles 3.38

The Caps just won all 4 of their games on their home stand and scored at least 4 goals in each of those games.

The Isles get back home to Brooklyn for this game on a 3 game losing skid.  I expect a strong effort from them in this game.

Stars vs Rangers  Betting Tips:

The Rangers are amazing when they are at home.  They are winners of 10 of their last 11 games at Madison Square Gardens.  The Stars limp into this game on a 3 game losing streak.

The last 10 meetings of these teams see the Rangers have the edge with a 6-3-1 record.

With the Rangers at home and the Stars slumping we have to back the Rangers to win this game.

Penguins vs Avalanche Betting Tips:

The Penguins last 4 games were high scoring with totals of; 7, 7, 7 and 6.  The Avs are the same with totals of; 10, 7, 6 and 9.

The Penguins are looking to get back in the win column after having their 4 game winning streak stopped by the Leafs.

The Avs snapped their losing streak in fashion when the beat up the Panthers 7-3 in their last game and will look to continue that offense in this game.

First look, first thoughts:

> Pens/Avs Over 5.5
> Rangers/Stars Over 5.5 & Rangers
> Isles/Caps Over 5.5
> Jets reg

Msx

Red Wings
Jets

Oliver Trigg

Well, my distaste for reg was multiplied last night with the Blues squandering a 2-0 lead…. I really have no words for that. Hawks did indeed win and reg and Leafs won in reg. That being said I will freely admit I put a fair amount of my money on the Blues in reg, got greedy and didn’t take the ML (because the odds were foul). Another lesson I suppose. I get nervous of spreading my bankroll over a wide selection of picks and sometimes prefer to go with my favourite; whilst that pans out sometimes very nicely other tips over investing on one result can hit you hard. Todays choices-

Jets Reg/ML (85%/90%) – This is a bounce back pick for me, the Jets have struggled all season on the road and with things so tight in the Central the Jets won’t be wanting to lose any more. The Nucks needing to notch wins too, but with Dorsett gone, Baertschi and Horvat injured the Canucks are missing players who over the season have scored 31% of all Vancouver’s goals. To me thats quite a handicap coming into a game against an opponent that is a) among the top 5 scoring teams in the league b) has among the best power plays in the league and c) has only 3 loses at home all season and finally d) has won 7 of the last 8 meetings against them. Vancouver aren’t in the sort of shape they need to be in in a spot like this. Vancouver have been good on the road, but their injuries are taking their toll having lost 4 of their last 5 on the road. The Canucks have a lot of potential, but the Jets are in the better shape and coming off 3 consecutive losses should be humbled enough not to take this game lightly. With only 3 games this season ending in OT in Winnipeg, I feel fairly confident taking the reg (despite reg burning me a lot lately).

Rangers ML/Reg (85% 80%) – The Rangers have lost just twice and home in their last 13 home games and are improving on the road too lately. Dallas has been very much a home team side, but has also posted decent away stats lately winning 3 of their last 5. That being said Dallas has dropped their last 3 games in a row, and despite those games being against stiff competition is somewhat of indicative of a slide. This is a particularly hard spot to come out of that slump, and considering Lehntonen is in net for the Stars, and Dallas’s overall poor road form I imagine the Rangers will win this with Lundqvist in net on their side. I am always nervous of taking Rangers in reg, as they do love to let in early goals at times and the ML is generous enough here. However, this game will likely end in reg in my view. Dallas is in a tough spot and from what I’ve seen the Rangers are the best they’ve been this season even without Zibanejad. Dallas has only gone to OT 4 times this season and two of those times were in back to back games against the Hawks.

Pens ML/Reg- Simple pick- haven’t had much time for analysis. Has a high probability it will end in reg. Avs struggled massively on the road posting just 4 wins all season. Their 7-3 win against the Panthers was not very indicative of anything really, the Panthers had leaky Reimer in net and are struggling too. Pens fired up after loss to the Leafs will want to bounce back at home. Pens are the better team, and in this spot I wouldn’t bet a 4 win road dog.

Leaning * won’t bet – Caps, Detroit, Ducks ***(might play this depending on status of Getzlaf, Kesler, Lindholm and silfverberg- ducks have been pretty good without them and Canes are awful right now)

Tumbabiro

I too now am just fed up with betting reg win, and the team ends up winning in OT, and I lose. I am looking into the option of betting a percentage on the OT in addition if I ever bet in reg again.

Oliver Trigg

Man tell me about it, its so frustrating having chosen the winning team just to see them win it in overtime. Just in this last week teams I’ve bet on in reg- Blues, Kings, Hawks, Wild, Sharks, Penguins …. who all won in OT. That is only going as far back as Friday. I’m really becoming great fan of the long game, winning smaller amounts with the insurance of OT. As was the case with all those games, I would have still made some money had I not chosen reg (I did bet some of them on ML too so it wasn’t all bad). But it is most certainly something to keep note of – sometimes that value is a trap.

Tumbabiro

So, here is one option instead of ML. If you bet one unit on Pittsburgh tonight to win in Reg, and a quarter unit for it to go to OT. If they win in Reg, you win 3/4 of a unit, if it goes to OT, you end up pushing. A form of insurance I suppose.

Sacha-raphael Gagne

and if they loose you loose more . im not sure about this solution,
thats my point of vue

Oliver Trigg

Sorry I was very busy yesterday. Tbh what I am finding is better method is to bet 75% of what you want to place on a team on the money line and 25% on the reg if you are confident of a reg win. I think its a good strategy regardless of how confident you are that a team will win. The Blues overtime win is a perfect example- they should have really won in reg but didn’t. Going with level stakes is generally safer and will result in greater profit over time even if you get lower returns in the short term.

SanDiegoBruinsD

Pretty much on the same page today. Until you mentioned it, I didn’t know that Getzlaf and Silfverberg were back for Ducks. That is HUGE! They are getting their captain and #1 center and a top six forward back and that will have an immense impact on the entire team by immediately making them a better team and bringing a much needed morale boost after a long slump. Getzlaf is a huge fan favorite and he’s going to be pumped up as will Silfverberg. Best of all the oddsmakers are making Duck’s -110 dogs. Too bad, I’d love to take them PL tonight.

InkedFive0

The ducks saved me tonight!!

Oliver Trigg

Glad you went with it- I played it myself but didn’t get around to updating my post. Apologies for that.

Oliver Trigg

Glad to have helped. I did indeed end up taking Ducks, but due to being so busy yesterday never got around to updating my post. Great value considering the ducks had so much firepower back.

Oliver Trigg

@Scott @Graeme I’m curious as to why there isn’t a play on Jets? Not suggesting its a mistake, but rather curious to what put you off?

Kukkonen

I would like to know this too 🙂

I’m going with
Jets reg
Caps ML and o5,5
Rangers ML
Pits-avs o5,5

Graeme (BetNHL.ca)

Sorry Oliver just seeing this now.

As you know I’ve been a strong backer of the Jets on the bounce back. However I was a bit concerned how 3 losses in a row might affect them especially considering they essentially “bounced back” in both the Panthers game(goalie caused the loss) and the Tampa game where they just had a great performance but couldn’t prevail.

I was worried that may take some oomph out of the team and would hurt their chances. That plus losing to a top team like Tampa even if it was a hard fought game in OT – that can really hurt a team who is also battling at the top. Can be a reality check.

Just decided to wait and see if they were mentally strong enough after all of that.

Juri

– Jets at regulation is more likely to happen
– Penguins should definitely win that time
– Carolina Hurricanes, no draw – taking small bet here

Oliver Trigg

Beware on Canes, a lot of Ducks big boys could be back tonight.

magus1349

SanDiegoBruinsD

It’s a short board today but full of opportunity.

Stars-NYR over 1u ev –
Stars GF 3.0 / GA 3.0
NYR GF 3.4 / 3.0
Last 5
Stars 3 of 5 over
NYR 4 of 5 over

NYR ML 1u -120 – I agree with Scott, Rangers are the better team and will take care of things tonight despite having a leaky Pavelec in net.

Rangers have scored 20 goals in last 5 and are 4-1 in last 5 home games. Lehtonen has a 3.81 GAA in losses. Pavelec is pretty leaky as well. I see NYR dominating tonight but Dallas getting at least 3 goals.

Avs-Pens over 1u -115 –
Avs GF 3.2 / GA 3.4
Pens GF 3.0 / 3.3
Last 5
Avs 4 of 5 over
Pens 3 of 5 over (all three were 6.5)

Bernier is horrendous and Jarry has come back to earth losing two of his last three while allowing 10 goals on 71 shots (.859 SV%).

Pens PL 1/2u +130 – see above
Pens regulation 1u -135 – Pens are playing a depleted Avs team who are 1-4 in last 5 and a dismal 5-10 on the road while Pens are 10-5 at home.

Caps-Isles over 1u -110 –
Caps GF 3.1 / GA 2.9
Isles GF 3.6 / 3.4
Last 5
Caps 4 of 5 over
Isles 4 of 5 over

Last time these teams played score was 4-3 and neither team has slowed down of late. They are also top ranked for goals scored in 1st so I like over in 1st period as well.

Jets regulation 1u -125 & PL 1/2u +160 – Even though Jets have had a mini-slump they are still one of the best teams in the league, especially at home where they are 10-3. They are 7-1 in a game where the over is 5.5, 3-1 after three road games. Look for Jets to get back on the winning track tonight and taking it to the banged up Nucks.

Cats-Red Wings over 1st 1u -120 – Neither of these teams rank highly in 1st period goals, but they do have two of the leakiest goalies in the league and both teams GA are terrible: Cats 3.6 and Red Wings 3.3

Big Salami over – I see A LOT of goals being scored today. Of the 12 teams playing today all have GA over 3 except for one team with 2.8 and two teams with 2.9. Only 4 teams have a GF less than 3.

Todays Parlay:

Penguins ML, Rangers ML, and Jets ML

Thinking of putting a good amount on Pittsburgh ML in a seprate play.

Been reading a lot of comments on whether to take ML or REG. Yesterday I thought Blues would win 100% in REG but turned out they won in overtime. Though I was pretty confident they would win in REG I still took ML just to be safe. I’d much rather win ML than have picked REG with the team to then win in overtime…that would just suck! Let’s win big boyssss!

Best of luck everyone!

H20
