We had the Washington Capitals to win last night but unfortunately we expected them to do the job in regulation and it took until overtime. It was overall a very disappointing performance by the Capitals.

We may look into releasing occasional picks closer to game time via Twitter and our comments. Yesterday for example Domingue was announced as in net for the Coyotes late afternoon after the tips had been posted. If we had known that it would have been a play yesterday. Unfortunately our mailing list we can only send out once per day so we’re not sure yet how best to handle that – maybe just a case of editing the post before any games and advising you guys come visit just before the games begin.

We won’t be doing that just now though we’re going to monitor things for a little while and see how things go.

Alright onto tonight and there’s a lot of games going on let’s see what we have:

Flyers vs Panthers Betting Tips:

When we looked at the tips today, I thought “slight lean on the Flyers” but the more I look at them the more I like them to win today.

Mason is on fire at the moment and a confident goalie exudes confidence throughout the entire team. Flyers are solid at home and are one of the top goalscoring teams in the league. Their power play is killer too although I don’t think we’ll see much of it against the Panthers.

Got to go with the hot goalie here especially with Marchessault out.

Flyers in regulation. (Mason must start)

Rangers vs Islanders Betting Tips:

Whenever it’s a big rivalry game we like to look at the Over, and this is one where it looks good. Rangers have been a bit erratic in defense lately but have been able to rack up the goals. Islanders offense has been rolling the last couple of games but other than that shootout against the Capitals their defense hasn’t looked good.

Obviously Lundqvist and Halak are two goalies who out of the blue can put in a great performance but we like this to be a high scoring game. The Rangers always bring out the best in the Islanders and it should be competitive. I could see the Islanders squeaking the win but the way both are playing I’m happy with Over 5.5 Goals incl OT/SO.

Other Games Thoughts:

(No official bets)

Sort of like the Star/Flames over 5.5. A bit concerned with the Flames road goalscoring record but they looked on fire the other night and you’d think that’d continue here.

I like the Devils but with the odds would have to be in regulation and they seem to be addicted to going to OT at the moment.

I think the Habs will pull off a surprise win over the Blues. I think their offense is going to be confident after that Kings game.

I like the Sabres/Oilers over but it’s a bit hard to count on either offense especially the Oilers atm.

Preds should win in regulation against the Avs but after their last two games screw them and screw them hard.

Mathematical/Experimental Betting Systems:

(All below systems are based mainly on mathematics and statistics with very little human input and are deemed experimental. Previous Records: 1st Period System 30-36 (+15.99u), OHL 28-15 (+17.15u)

WHL Betting Tips(16-13, +0.31u): Regina Pats & Moose Jaw Warriors to win double – both in regulation time – for 2.20 odds.

AHL Betting Tips(10-5, +3.89u): Going for a risky Grand Rapids Griffins in regulation at 2.50. System sees value in it but you may wish to buy the insurance with overtime/shootout at 1.88.

What do you think about Flyers-Panthers going Over 5,5? Stats seem good about it.

Mirko Presen

Good chance it will happened , i like Njd -van over4,5 .

Graeme (BetNHL.ca)

I’d prefer to take that one at 5. But I’d be a bit concerned at the Panthers offense and how tight the Flyers are playing. It depends if you believe the Panthers can get by Mason 2 times tonight or not.

BeantownBoozehound

Use twitter. You guys don’t post a lot on there anyway so those of us that come check your site everyday before making picks can set up to get a notification anytime you guys post on twitter. That way anything comes up last minute you can post it and we can be notified immediately.

Graeme (BetNHL.ca)

Yeah that’s true and I can give out instructions for people on how to set those notifications. Thanks. Would be helpful for us as well in regard to goalies overall and late decisions etc.

BlueLineBets

2-1 last night, +.36u (+1.43 in Dec.) If the Bruins could hold a lead in the 3rd it would have been a perfect night, but oh well. On to tonight’s picks.

Flyers in Regulation (2.10)
Predators ML (1.50) (Guess I’m a glutton for punishment)
Flames in Regulation (great value at 2.80!)
Coyotes/Blackhawks U5.5 (1.741) – I also think this one could go to OT (OT not an official pick).

Mirko Presen

Probably preds win today in regulation 🙂

BlueLineBets

My system agrees, but two bad beats in a row has shaken my confidence a little.

Mirko Presen

What do you think about Njd-Van over 4.5 or 5?

BlueLineBets

Based on the way both teams have played the last two weeks it looks like it could be an over play, but my season-long data is projecting around 5 goals so I’m staying away. If I had to pick a side I like the Devils, but as Graeme said, they go to OT a lot a the ML odds aren’t great. The last 4 nights, more than 50% of NHL games each night have gone to OT/SO. A lot of parody in the league right now.

Mirko Presen

I really dont like Njd ML at 1.57!!

Mirko Presen

That is why they will win in reg against a very sloppy avs team.Probably will make a small unit on them rather on some other.

SanDiegoBruinsD

Preds are getting Neal back today. That is a huge boost both in terms of talent and emotion. Laviolette is going to have them fired up after the last two losses. They are playing for pride tonight. Avs are at end of tough road trip and won’t have much in the tank. Varlamov got shredded last time he faced Preds and gave up 5. I like Preds tp win 1st as well.

Orhan Cypriot Ugurcag

I wouldn’t bet on Preds in regulation after the last two games, the Avs needs a win here badly after a poor run of games and I’d take a desperate team over statistics any day.

lion

I will bet on avs in that game. Because my feelings are saying that you are wrong again!

Mirko Presen

that was said in sarcasm but suit yourself 😉

Alexfdg

Thank you last sunday 200% correct prediction! 🙂

Mojo

Flyers, Preds, Devils, Jets? ML all, regulation sucking the life out of me

BlueLineBets

Love the Flyers, like the Preds, Devils I’m ok on, Jets I’m not sure about. I give the edge to the Jets, but I don’t have a great feel for that game and my model doesn’t show a strong play on it either.

Mojo

Really? Even though the Jets are strong at home and the Wings really don’t have much?

BlueLineBets

If I had to pick a side I would go with the Jets, my model does lean towards them. But the Wings have scored 3 or more goals in 4 of their last 6 games, so their offense has been ok lately, and the Jets are not the most consistent team.

Mojo

I feel like those are by far the best 4 sides to back tonight?

BlueLineBets

Yeah, I agree with the first two for sure, and I like the Devils. I might put the Blues ahead of the Jets, especially at home against Montoya. And I like the Flames tonight with the way their offense is clicking right now (over 4 G/game their last 5 games). Even still I wouldn’t parlay them all if that is what you are thinking…Hockey is crazy and unpredictable, you never know what could happen. And you don’t always have to pick sides. I love the under in the Hawks game tonight.

Mojo

I guess at the end of the day I’d much much rather bet against Detroit than the Habs. Flames are good value pick but that game is a toss up.

BlueLineBets

You gotta go with what you’re confident in. Good Luck!

Mojo

I’m emotionally worn out after another heartbreaking loss man. Needed Jets to win and couldn’t watch the shootout, went upstairs looked at my phone and saw Laine scored first in the shootout after a couple Wings misses, thought okay finally. Then looked to see the next shooter (freaking Vanek) scored to keep it going. Sure enough they lose. I feel sick. They had a 3-1 lead too. Unreal

BlueLineBets

I’m sorry man. That really sucks. Hockey is a crazy game and very hard to pin down night to night. It seems like you have a good feel for the game but I think you are making poor betting management decisions, and that is what is costing you. I used to make the same mistakes when I first started betting. When you get so close over and over again but keep just missing it’s very frustrating, but I think you can make money if you are just a little more patient. It is very rare to make large quantities of money quick betting on sports. That’s why Vegas can afford to build those massive casinos.

Mojo

You’re right, I was just hoping to get that one so I had something to start going easier with and parlaying less. Now I don’t know what do and am panicking a bit.

SanDiegoBruinsD

I like the Blues play a lot. Preds, Flyers, Blues reg parlay might work.

Stats Guru

What “site” do you keep referring to?

SanDiegoBruinsD
Stats Guru

Is it a “secret” site?

Darin Lessard

Stl. Cal.Buf.Van.Nyi.Phi.Nas.Det.Chi. all going to win tonight in regulation. Bet on it that’s money in the pocket.

Henry Del Valle Sr.

I am with you on Calgary and think they can pull off the win. Dallas is REALLY struggling right now. Flames and Johnson are playing extremely well. If I had a 4th play to make, Flames would be it.

BlueLineBets

It does look a little too good to be true but I can’t pass up that value with the way they are playing right now.

Mirko Presen

Today i am leaning towards this teams

Nyr ML
Phi ML
Habs ML
Njd over 4,5 or 5

Not sure about jets and detroit ,i like how jets are playing but also like how wings play atm and they are on long road trip.

Henry Del Valle Sr.

Myself I like the Jets to take care of biz in lovely Winnepeg. Detroit is still banged up, on a long roadie and are coming off a win in Long Island. Jets are good at home. I like the way Hellabuck is playing right now.

magus1349

Like Flyers, Avalanche, Sabres and Stars.

Orhan Cypriot Ugurcag

Any reasoning behind the picks? I could see the avs winning against a losing Preds team tonight, the Avs are on an even bigger losing streak and need a win tonight.

Johnny Hockey

Again we have BIG ODDS for the Wings!

Caesium

Blues in reg @ 2.21

Habs are playing the last of 5 straight games away. Galchenyuk is out, Price is down and Blues are playing massive!

GL to everyone!

BlueLineBets

Montoya is in net tonight. Not Price, if that makes a difference with your opinion.

Caesium

Thank you for the update.

Henry Del Valle Sr.

agree 100%

Johnny Hockey

Already took:
> Devils in regulation – Markstrom in net for VAN
> Rangers/Islanders OVER 5.5
> Flyers in regulation

Thinking about:
> Preds in regulation (but really not sure)
> Maybe Hawks/Coyotes UNDER 5.5

VALUE!?
> Wings in regulation
> Flames in regulation

Darin Lessard

Take STL.win in regulation at home. Their playing to good on home ice especially with their home record.

AlansonD

Montreal ML ODD 2.45 (from 2.1 to 2.45 hell yeah, thank you Price!) with 1 unit
(Flames ML are nice to pick too with ODD 2.15)

Alexfdg

Still MTL with Montoya?

AlansonD

Because of Montoya. :))

Alexfdg

Whatever you say King Midas! hihihi 😀
(just please: don´t get you head get too big, ok?) 🙂

AlansonD

No, no! I was just posting more stuff the last days to show people that I’m not just picking random stuff. All the same for me. If that bet loses or not, it won’t affect my ego. I just tried to be self-confident again after doing some mistakes last week. Got my head clear and I like it. That’s all. (Haha and also more units than ever this season. That makes you happy too, you know! 😉 )

Orhan Cypriot Ugurcag

St Louis are playing pretty good lately, but it is hard to bet against the habs, even with Montoya in net, Price hasn’t exactly “performed” lately and maybe Habs will start scoring more again after their confidence boost against Kings who are a harder opponent than Blues. I think we could see a regulation win here too.

AlansonD

Yes my feeling tells me St Louis should win and with Price in net, I would take Flames. But we have Montoya today! And look at Jake Allen’s stats. I’m curious how he will play today. There are just the injuries of Montreal which made me think twice. At all it is a 50:50 situation and the better team will win, so you have to take this huge ODD.

Mirko Presen

Are you going with both these picks?

AlansonD

No.

Mirko Presen

Well played stasny 🙂

Henry Del Valle Sr.

Why are my posts being deleted as spam?

Caesium

Probably too much edits.

SanDiegoBruinsD

I’m with BLB, I think Preds bounce back after humiliating OT loss to NJ and getting outworked by Flyers (how hot are they?!). Neal took like rushes today and was activated off IR so it’s likely he is back. That will be both an emotional and talent boost to the team. I think they roll over Avs tonight and get back on winning ways.

Orhan Cypriot Ugurcag

I don’t agree with all of the preds regulation talk, sure, they “should” bounce back, will they? I’m not sure, they aren’t looking super hot in the games they’ve lost and even though avs is a weaker opponent statistically, they need a win tonight even more than the preds do, they’ve lost their last 5, I can’t see that extending to 6. I’d go with Avs (ML) or no bet personally, maybe no bet on this game is the safest option.

BlueLineBets

Canucks lost 9 in a row earlier in the season, sometimes it happens, and it’s not like the Avs were playing great hockey before they started on this losing streak. Also the Avs have allowed 6,3,5,3, and 3 goals in those 5 games, and the Preds are still averaging over 3.4 G/game at home. I’m not saying they win in regulation, but I do think the Preds win tonight.

SanDiegoBruinsD

so do the oddsmakers, Preds are -215 on my site. If you want to be them, it’d have to reg

Henry Del Valle Sr.

WPG – ML
STL – ML
PHIL – in Reg

I do not trust the Preds right now. They really hurt my feelings. I want to play the Over in this game, but with Landeskog out and Neal still iffy, I will leave it alone. Rinne is capable of pitching a shutout.

SanDiegoBruinsD

Just a note: all signs point towards Neal being back. He’s activated off IR and took like rushes this morning. He’s quoted as feeling good and clearly the team needs his skill and leadership. Rinne is in net. Avs are without Capt Landeskog and top 4 defenseman Tyutin. Both guys avg around 20min TOI

Arto Reinikainen

I thought my analyses last night were pretty damn solid, but didn’t get any luck. Sabres were closer to winning it in regulation than the Caps, Bruins lost their lead in the final minutes and Jackets did what i expected them to. Also a good call to pass on the Sens. I imagine if i made that pick i’d been cheering when it was 4-2, only to say “yeah.. i know this would happen”.

Keeping it short tonight, a lot of good options. Theme for many is to get it done at home in a must-win situation.

Devils -1.5

– After a long road trip it’s good to be back home. They lost way too many games while on the road and will come out firing. I don’t believe the Canucks will be ready for a solid 60 min effort. And honestly, the Devils are the better team. I see no reason why they couldn’t come out with a solid performance.

(Combo
Blackhawks in regulation

– Have to get this one, and the Coyotes haven’t shown enough lately to make me believe the Hawks couldn’t pull it off.

Preds in regulation

– Same as Hawks.)

Islanders in regulation
Over 5

– Islanders are set as underdogs here. But overall they’ve played great lately, and Halak is always solid against the Rangers. Expecting an entertaining home game with a good amount of goals (both teams have been great offensively lately).

Flyers in regulation

– I see a lot of people going for this/tipping it which makes me a bit scared, and honestly i expect it to be another tight game as the Panthers just don’t go away, but i see the Flyers having more of a punch than the Bruins last night to get it done eventually.

Sabres – Oilers OT

– Don’t see either team giving up is basically what it comes down to.

Canadiens – Blues Over 5

– Montoya 88.7% in his last 2, 87.0% career vs Hitchcock’s Blues. Allen 85.1% – 86.5% respectively. Initially i thought the Habs would have a good chance to win it, but Montoya + Blues solid offense lately puts me off.

Red Wings in regulation

– Underdog road pick of the night. Jets haven’t been as good as their record over their last 5 would indicate. Red Wings can make it a frustrating night for the Jets, who when feeling good about themselves have come out with bad efforts especially in the 1st half of games earlier in the season. Im looking to see some of that again tonight.

And finally, Flames-Stars i couldn’t make a pick. Stars are looking to win as it’s a must-win for them, but the Flames offense surging (and Stars lack of it) makes me think the Flames might be a bit too much in regulation for the Stars to handle. I leaned towards OT, but at the same time still kind of like the Stars to win, so couldn’t make up my mind.

Good luck and let’s hope for some luck tonight !

Arto Reinikainen

Im actually going to do a complete 180 and go for the Panthers in regulation instead of Philly. (edited that out)

I know everything points for a Philly win but that’s exactly why i make this bet.

I got so many flashbacks of games like these.

Remember a while back when the Ducks, on a 3 game losing skid, went to visit the red-hot Sharks, on a B2B ? Their backup Bernier was in net, and Sharks had hot Jones in goal. Everything pointed to a Sharks win. But Ducks came with a relentless effort to win it 3-2.

From previous seasons i remember so many games like these, where everything from goalies to offense pointed to a clear win for the home team. But instead they straight up lose.

Maybe i’ll end up regretting it, but hey, sometimes you got to go with the intuition.

Caesium

Bad memories stick better than good ones… GL

Arto Reinikainen

I wouldn’t say they’re bad memories, as most of the time i’ve learned to stay away or even go for the underdog. Usually though, i’ve made the middle ground play going for OT, only to have the team nobody thought would win, win it in regulation. So in a way i guess you could call them bad memories.

Caesium

Both memories should persist once you can learn with them. How to do and what to avoid staying away. My focus is european football and it’s where I have more knowledge, but the background I can apply in any sport. The NHL odds are very attractive as well as the emotion, so I am in doing the first steps.
