A nice quiet day today in the NHL with just 4 games. Lotta B2Bs too.

It all starts early and will wrap up prior to the Super Bowl.

Let’s get right into it:

Canadiens vs Oilers:

Edmonton saved Skinner for this one. Odds are too much to take in regulation for Oilers and not comfortable with the handicap. No bet.

Flyers vs Kraken:

Flyers coming off the loss yesterday to the Preds. Kraken though since the break haven’t look good. Unbackable. The advanced metrics don’t even lean their way anyway. No bet but this one is closer than the bookies have it and I’d say miniscule value on Phlly.

Capitals vs Sharks:

Caps got the win over the Bruins yesterday. Like I said yesterday that wasn’t a surprise based on the advanced metrics. Sharks we last saw on Thursday get blown out by Florida.

Caps GF/60 last 10 is pretty weak but a high xGF/60 and the Sharks leak goals like crazy. Guess it depends how you feel about Washington on a B2B.

Caps in regulation at 1.90 is fine for me. Feels a mathematically sound play. Just have to go into it knowing that sometimes the Caps are gonna Cap.

Knights vs Ducks:

Nothing here. Don’t think Knights should be such big favourites.

Weak leans: Oilers and Caps to win moneyline

Washington won’t be tired today, they’ve played one game in February so far. However, while needing points, they won’t care much about this game; they get one day off before playing Carolina, then Florida and Carolina again. They need peak performance next week or could lose a series of games and drop down in the very busy Wild Card race.

I’ve lost several tickets on the Oilers this season because of their inconsistency. Both the Oilers and Habs are on a back-to-back. Some Oilers may take the day off. Oilers fly home for two days off before playing Detroit. A non-conference game against a bottom-feeder team nobody cares about this year. Perfect time to give any players with playthrough injuries a strategic break.

Vegas has won 3 of their last 10 games and have scored ONE powerplay goal over their last 10 games. Alarmingly, Vegas has only taken 16 penalties in their last 10 games, which to me doesn’t signal clean play (when considering all their other stats), it means lack of effort. They could be done for the season. Maybe a focal point for the Trade deadline?

I have no problem with the puck line for an Oilers team that is hitting on all cylinders. Add that Allen will be between the pipes for the Habs and you’ve got a 4-2 or 5-3 win. I like Oilers first to 4 too.

Caps in reg. It’s a short flight from Boston to DC so the team will be rested against a porous Sharks team on the last game of a grueling road trip. They’ll be thinking about getting this one in the books and getting to their families and gfs. They call this a scheduled loss. Caps first to 3 with Kahkonen GAA 3.75 in net for the Sharks.
