There was 7 games yesterday and we went 1-0.

Had the Kings vs Rangers game to go over 6 and it did when the Rangers won 5-2. Big win for the Rangers as it ended their losing skid at 4 games.

The Penguins scored 5 goals in 4:27 and beat the Lightning 7-3, the Leafs beat the Kraken 5-1 for their 3rd straight win, the Wild beat the Jackets 3-2 in with Kaprizov scoring all 3 for the Wild and the Sabres beat the Caps 7-4 for their 3rd win in a row.

The Devils acquired Timo Meier from the Sharks and the Lightning grabbed Tanner Jeannot. It’s always an exciting time in the season when the trade deadline comes around.

There are 5 games for us tonight.

Red Wings vs Senators

The Wings are coming off of getting shutout 3-0 by the Lightning. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games.

The Sens beat the Habs 5-2 and are 6-3-1 over last 10.

The Wings have 64 points and the Sens 60 and both have played 58 games.

The Wings are 3 points out of the playoffs and the Sens are 7. Both can still make it in but have to play well the rest of the way.

I could see this game going either way so I’m skipping it.

Canucks vs Stars

The Canucks have gone 3-5-2 and the Stars 3-3-4.

The Stars picked up a win in their last game which snapped their losing skid at 5 games. They have needed extra time in 3 of their last 5 and 6 of their last 11. They are still in 1st in the Central with 74 points.

The Stars should win this game and ending their losing streak will give them momentum but we would need to take them -1.5 which I can’t do with their recent results.

Bruins vs Oilers

Bruins have won 6 in a row and the Oilers have lost their last 2.

In their last game the Oilers were down 4-0 but managed to tie it up after the 2nd but were outscored 2-1 in the 3rd and the Jackets won. That was a game they should have won and could come back to haunt them.

The Bruins are 2nd and the Oilers 1st in goals per game. I was thinking of going with the over here but the Bruins are ranked 1st in goals allowed.

I see it’s a game where I don’t have to take the Bruins in regulation so I’m going with that.

Knights vs Avalanche

The Knights have gone 6-1-3 and are in 1st in the Pacific with 76 points. The Avalanche have won their last 5 games and are in 2nd in the Central.

They have played twice this season with each team winning 1.

With the Avalanche at home and on a 5 game win streak they should win but the Knights have been a decent road team going 17-5-5 so I’m passing on this one.

Blackhawks vs Ducks

Ya both teams have been terrible this season.

How can I tip either team here. Both are on win streaks which is surprising. The Hawks have won their last 5 games, 3 of which came in overtime, and the Ducks have won 2 in a row.

It’s an easy skip for me.

Full game OVER 6.0: Sens
2nd Period OVER 1.5: Bruins/Oilers
Lean: Tie in regulation: Anaheim

Chicago’s situation with withholding players likely to be traded; their morale must be in disarray and how can they focus? Anaheim can beat any team that takes the night off, as some of the best teams do from time to time. But I expect the Chicago players to show up for this. This will be a game played on character alone between two weak teams. I see no edge.

Vancouver’s Demko hasn’t played since December 1, but the weak Dallas offense has be off that game. (Will it be Silovs instead?) Oettinger may be a brick wall, but he’s got little run support and Vancouver has offensive talents and are gradually improving with their new coach. Another team ripe for trades.

I expect the Bruins/Oilers game to be full effort by both teams. That should gravitate to 5 goals, but since these two teams rarely meet, it may lack the spark of one of Boston’s eastern rivalries. No real idea what’s going to happen. Maybe Edmonton goes on a scoring blitz, maybe Boston does. Maybe 7-5, maybe 3-2, and for who I don’t know.

Having to watch the trade reports hour by hour makes this week very chancy. Calgary is ripe for trade action, most teams are, and Calgary plays two teams this week on the usually horrific Alberta back-to-back, where Edmonton gets to tire out a team first: Boston then Toronto. Trade action will be critical to how teams perceive Calgary and how Calgary performs. I see Edmonton and Calgary as two teams on the edge of performing far better, but will that start this week? Next week? Not this season?
