A disappointing 1-2 last night with both our 1u plays losing.

We had the Kings vs Flyers game to go over 5.5 goals. That one was looking good with three goals in it going into the third period. Quick and Stolarz made a combined 67 saves in that game though as the Kings pulled off the 3-2 win in OT. Props to the Kings for being able to take it in OT as I know what a killer those late goals can be.

I went for the riskier Blackhawks in regulation as opposed to including overtime/shootout and that one didn’t pan out as the Hawks won it in OT. That was a frustrating one as Hawks looked good for the win but Petterson got a PPG with Markstrom pulled with just under two minutes left.

We won with the Islanders over the Devils.

It was a decent night of action with some good games. Man the wild card race in the West is close eh? Just 7 points separate the Wild in first place and the Kings in last place in the standings. That’s going to go down to the wire.

The East is fairly tight too although not as tight but I’m looking forward to a lot of important hockey games over the next little while.

Tonight is one of those games as The New York Rangers host the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canes are coming off a hard fought victory over the Sabres and are 3rd in the wild card. The Rangers are in 6th and a win here is very important for them.

The sportsbooks have this one as a coinflip.

The Hurricanes are always a tricky team to predict. I’ve mentioned it before but when you look at the advanced metrics they are always right at the top in most of the stats. Sometimes that translates onto the ice, sometimes it doesn’t.

Usually with the Hurricanes I stay away from opinion based picks, and only go with them when I feel the math is right.

However I am going to go with the New York Rangers today. The Canes always scare the heck out of me and their 2nd leg of back to back stats are good. However I’ve been extremely impressed with the New York Rangers lately. They have thrown in some very solid and fighting performances. They are pushing for the playoffs and have raised their game.

I’m very wary of the Canes however so we’ll go with a small play.
