The Western Conference Final is now set. The Dallas Stars will take on the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche in overtime. Our opinions on that one were mixed with Graeme taking the Avs and Scott taking the Stars. It was neat being divided on that and then seeing it go to overtime which validated both our opinions. The Stars won out in that one with Scott calling it correctly – Hutchinson wouldn’t be able to do the job again.
We were both on the correct side in the other one and it was nice to see a dominant victory there. The Knights shut out the Canucks for the 2nd time in the series to win 3-0.
Now we get to the final game of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Flyers vs Islanders.
The winner of this one will face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Flyers have managed to win two games in a row – both in overtime – as their offense
Let’s get to it.
Flyers vs Islanders Game 7 Betting Tips:
Graeme: The recipe for success is easy for the Flyers – outscore the Islanders. It’s that simple. Every game they have won has been by them scoring 4+ goals. Hart has been fantastic too. Even though they won 5-4 in the last game Hart made some real key saves in there. Islanders are playing really good.
I just don’t think Flyers can sustain this. When I break it down by the advanced metrics I feel Flyers are getting the PDO and not sure it can continue.
I said yesterday that I feel for Game 7s, we should pick a winner. If I was going to – I would take the Islanders. However their odds are not good enough for me. Flyers have the self confidence.
Sportsbooks seem to favour this as a Islanders 3-1 type of game based on the odds and lines set. To be honest if you look at the advanced metrics – I think that is quite accurate. But I like to factor in the Flyers winning two overtimes, their offense confident and overperforming and think they have some self-belief.
This is a “heart over head” type pick as I’m going with Over 5 Goals incl OT. I think the numbers don’t jive for this too much but man I dig the Flyers fight. I’ll probably through something on Islanders -1.5 too though as the metrics make that look like a good play.
Scott: The Flyers got a huge boost in game 6 when Oskar Lindblom made his return to game action for the first time since he was diagnosed with cancer in December. He played over 17 minutes, threw 2 hits and blocked a shot. Carter Hart was good making 49 saves and the Flyers forced a game 7 when they won 5-4 in double overtime.
The Flyers have now won 2 in a row and the momentum has swung to their side now. But it’s hard to bet this game in my opinion. Both teams have won 2 in a row and have had good goaltending. The Islanders just never give up and the Flyers seem to have found their grove.
Instead I’ll go with the over in this game. 3 of the 6 games have hit 7 goals and 1 hit 5. Both teams will be giving everything they can as its win or go home.
