Only 2 games yesterday.

The Caps beat the Flames 5-2.  With the win they are now in the wild card.  Ovechkin scored and became just the 3rd player in NHL history to score 20 goals in 19 consecutive seasons joining Shanahan and Howe.

The Sabres beat the Kraken 6-2.  The Sabres are now within 5 points of the wild card.   Skinner scored a hat trick.

Even with all of the games it’s a tricky time to make plays.  13 tonight so let’s see what we have.

Senators vs Bruins Betting Tips:

Sens are way out of the playoffs and are 3-6-1 in last 10.

The Bruins are in 1st place in the Atlantic and the league.  They have 95 points in 69 games but the Panthers and Rangers both have 94 in 68 games.   So the Bruins need to win to stay ahead.

Against the Sens they should win.  Would have to take the Bruins in regulation and I’m still nervous to do that with how many of their games have needed extra time.

Jets vs Rangers Betting Tips:

Big game.  The Jets are in 1st in the Central and the Rangers are 1st in the Metro.

The Jets are on a 2 game win streak and are 6-4-0 in last 10.  On the road they have gone 20-10-3.

The Rangers are also on a 2 game win steak and are 6-3-1 last 10.  At home they have gone 24-8-0.

Similar records in last 10.  I could make a case for each team here.  Even look at the metrics I still can’t find a winner.

Penguins vs Devils Betting Tips:

Both are out of the playoffs but both could still make it.

The Pens are 3-6-1 in last 10 and are 6 points out.  On the road they have gone 12-15-5 which isn’t good.  The Devils are 3-7-0 last 10 and 15-7-2 at home.  They are 7 points back of the wild card.

With the way both teams are playing I can’t back either here.

Jackets vs Wings Betting Tips:

The Jackets are in last place in the Eastern Conference and 10-16-6 on the road.

The Wings haven’t been good recently.   They are 2-8-0 and are in the final wild card spot but the Caps and Isles are only 1 point back.

Can’t back either team here.  The Wings should win but with the way they are playing I’m staying away.

Leafs vs Flyers Betting Tips:

The Leafs are pretty much locked in 3rd place in the Atlantic.   They are 6-3-1 last 10 and 20-7-6 on the road.

The Flyers are in 3rd in the Metro with 76 points.  The Caps and Isles are in 9th and 10th but are only 3 points behind them.  They are 4-5-1 in last 10 and on a 2 game skid.   At home they have gone 17-14-3.

This is one of those spots where it’s tough to predict.  The Leafs are in 3rd and will be unless they can somehow close the 9 point gap to move into 2nd or go on a long skid and allow the Lightning to close the 7 point gap separating them and with the way the Lightning are playing it’s possible.  The Flyers are in 3rd in the Metro but are only 1 point ahead of the Caps who have a game in hand.  So it’s a crucial game for both teams.

Hurricanes vs Islanders Betting Tips:

The Canes are in 2nd in the Metro and only 4 points back of the 1st place Rangers.  Luckily for them they have a 14 point lead over the Flyers.

The Isles are in 10th place and only 1 point behind the wild card.   They need to gain points but are on a 4 game skid.

The Canes should win this game but if the Isles are to make a push then they have to start winning and what better way then to get yourself back on track then by beating the Canes.

Canes better in Corsi numbers, goals for and against but the Isles are in desperation mode so they could make a game of this.

Avalanche vs Blues Betting Tips:

The Avalanche are tied with the Jets for 1st place in the Central but have played one more game.  They are 8-2-0 last 10 and on a 6 game win streak.

The Blues are in 9th place with 75 points.  They are 4 back of the wild card.   They are on a 4 game win streak.

On the road the Avs haven’t been that good going 17-14-5 and the Blues have been good in St. Louis going 21-11-1.

I want to take the Avalanche here but their road record and that we would have to take them in regulation has me off of this game.

Sharks vs Predators Betting Tips:

Sharks are in last place in the league and there’s no way I’m backing them.

The Preds are 8-0-2 in last 10 and in the first wild card spot.   They are a better team on the road going 21-10-3 than they are at home where they have gone 18-15-1.

The odds make this unplayable as we would have to take the Preds -2.5.

Canadiens vs Oilers Betting Tips:

The Habs are 13 points out and at this point they are basically eliminated.  They’re 3-4-3 last 10 and on a 2 game skid.

The Oilers are 7-1-2 last 10 and in 2nd in the Pacific.   They are 8 points back of the Canucks and 5 ahead of the Kings.

We would have to take the Oilers -2.5 and that’s not something I want to do.

Sabres vs Canucks Betting Tips:

The Sabres played last night and won against the Kraken to move 5 points behind the wild card.

The Canucks are in 1st in the Pacific but are still without Demko.  I’m not comfortable tipping them when he’s out.

Blackhawks vs Kings Betting Tips:

Not touching the Hawks.

The Kings are in 3rd in the Pacific but have the same number of points as the Knights do and the Knights are in the final wild card spot.

They just played on Friday and the Kings won that with ease 5-0.  I would think the Kings pick up the win here.

We would have to take the Kings -1.5 which is quite possible but their home play doesn’t give me much confidence and the odds for that are awful

Wild vs Ducks Betting Tips:

These teams played on Thursday and the Wild won that 2-0

The Wild are on a 7 game point streak and 4 points back of the wild card.

They are playing well and doing all the can to close the gap on the wild card.

The Ducks are in 30th in the league so who knows how hard they will play.  Surely some of the team wants to play the spoiler.

The Wild are better in CF, CA, SF/60, SA/60  and also better in goals for and goals against.

This is a game that the Wild need to win.  I’m a little nervous about taking them in regulation but if they are a playoff team than they should be able to do it.

Wild in regulation

(Odds correct as of 2024/03/19 9:02:53 AM EST but are subject to change.)

Lightning vs Knights Betting Tips:

The Lightning are in the first wild card spot.   The team they are chasing is the Leafs who have 85 points which is 7 more than the Lightning have.

The Knights are in the final wild card spot with 79 points which is the same number of points as the Kings who are in 3rd.

Both teams are fighting to stay in the wild card spots or push for 3rd in their divisions.  Should be a good game.

Knights are better CF, Lightning better CA.  Knights shooting more, Lightning allowing less.  Just the stats make this a tough call. Both teams are in wild card and need to get points to stay there.

Full game OVER 5.0: Leafs/Flyers
To WIN moneyline: The Johnny Cash Dancers
Lean: Boston wins puckline

The Leafs and Flyers should play this out as usual, so their average goal counts for/against should be expected. 5 goals is no stretch. 4 seems extremely unlikely!

San Jose is on their third game in four days, while Nashville, at home, has had two days off. The Preds still need points to separate themselves in the playoff race.

Both Carolina and Islanders are on their third game in four days, so not touching that. There are 10 teams in that situation today. We could see many pathetic or odd performances today, an echo of exhausted Calgary’s lacklustre performance yesterday against Washington, who were nothing special. Carolina is looking like a team to back in the stretch, but I’ll wait until the situation improves for their game readiness.

Ottawa is playing their third game in four days, but will Boston take a night off in the home stretch, against a low team like Ottawa? If they want the President’s trophy, they’re not learning much. I’m off that one.

Wanted to take Philadelphia here as a home underdog. The problem is I dunno if I can trust Ersson with the form he’s in recently. I believe he has a GAA just under 4, and .884 Save percentage over his last 4 games. He’s been pulled twice including against this Toronto team, which was his last game played. He does have 2 solid games, but one was against the Sharks. We can kinda throw that out. So the Florida 2-1 win on the road was solid.

Marner won’t make the trip for Toronto. So that could make Ersson’s life a little easier. Problem is Toronto’s depth. All 12 of their forwards have scored at least one goal over the last 10 games. That includes Ryan Reaves.

I do think Matthews scores for Toronto. I don’t think I will play it though. He had a goal and assist last time they played. And a hat trick vs them back on Feb 15. At -120 odds it makes it a little bit easier for me to pass on in case he doesn’t though. Reilly at +900 is solid long shot odds, but I do think it’s slim that one cashes.

Philly plays with a lot of effort, especially at home. If they can get better goaltending from Ersson here I like their chances as a home underdog. Especially if Toronto goes through the motions and isn’t very motivated vs a team they just beat.

As For goal scorers New Jersey Bratt to score at +200 will be a play for me. I’m also considering Jack Hughes at +130. I think there’s a good chance one or the other scores tonight and a decent chance both could. I’ll also take Bratt to record a Power Play Point at +270.

And Winnipeg vs Rangers I’ll take draw after regulation at +330. I’ll probably play for Rangers to draw for the next four games or so hoping to get one or two to cash. I didn’t get to look at the metrics so this is more of just a theory for me. I do think this will be a tough upcoming schedule of games for the Rangers especially with Lindgren out.

I was only able to look at a game or two metric wise so most of these are risky plays. They could all crash and burn but it’s where I’ve landed.

My Plays are

Philadelphia +114

Winnipeg/New York Rangers Draw after Regulation +330

New Jersey

Bratt To Score +200
Bratt to record Power Play Point +270

and I still haven’t decided on Jack Hughes to score +130.
