The playoff race in the West got a bit tighter last night.

The Avs got a much needed win hosting the Knights, whose chances of catching up on the Sharks are probably shot. The Avs are 2nd in the Wild Card standings now, two points ahead of the Coyotes – the only other team who really have a chance of making it. The Wild have a slight chance.

Stars are all but in with their impressive 2-1 win over Calgary last night. Flames are a weird team at the moment and run very hot and cold and it’s going to be interesting for them in the playoffs.

Tonight – not too much in the West in terms of the playoffs. The East however has a massive game as the Habs take on the Blue Jackets. It’s a crucial one for the Habs as the Jackets are favoured to make the playoffs at their expense.

The Hurricanes still aren’t in there yet and they get to host a Washington team that have discovered their mojo again. So should be some good action.

Canadiens vs Blue Jackets Betting Tips:

It’s been a weird battle for the playoffs and the wild card spots. It seems so many teams will get close then get allergic to the #1 and #2 spots and trail off. The perfect example of that is the Blackhawks. They were playing some exciting and fun hockey and were in complete “don’t give a shit” mode. Suddenly the playoffs became a reality and welp – we saw what happened to them there.

The Habs are one of the only teams that I’ve been able to look at and say “they are playoff material”. Now they need to show it against a Blue Jackets team that are on a great home run.

This is one where I’m quite simply putting my money where my mouth is. I’ve talked the Habs up – both on here and with friends – as a playoff team and if they are a playoff team, then they win a crucial game like this.

Jackets have some excellent home form going on at the moment and they’ve beaten some big teams. But the Habs are a tough competitor. That overtime loss against the Canes was an extremely well earned point – the amount of chances the Canes were creating etc was unreal and they weathered the storm well.

The Jackets are no pushover and are coming on back to back shutouts so Bobrovsky will be confident. However I feel this is really more of a coinflip game, and will bet accordingly.

0.5u on the Habs to win incl OT/SO if Price is in net

The rest of the slate is pretty ugly to be honest. It’s really hard to get behind a lot of the teams at the moment as you never know if they’re going to show up or not. It’s been a solid betting month but I think it’s going to be quiet the next few days in terms of quantity of bets.

Slight leans are:

– Jets to win. They have been the better side. Just hard to back.
– Caps to win. Not bad value on them but they’re on my “Do Not Bet” list currently. Canes are always a tough game too.
– Red Wings to win. Just not sure if they can keep it up but Buffalo are miserable.
– Oilers/Stars Over. Oilers seem to be having fun out there now the horrible pressure of getting into the playoffs is off them. Could push this game over as the Stars fight. But I’ve learned my lesson with the Oilers.
