If we believe the sportsbooks, only two teams may as well show up in the NHL West this year.
Odds wise, both the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights have it locked down and will theoretically run away with the division, with the Blues a distandtthird.
It’ll be interesting seeing how this goes. With no pressure on the rest of the teams will they possibly pull something out?
The Avs are definitely the team to beat I’d say. They just look so darn good this year with no real question marks.
Here’s the odds and my preview of the NHL West Division:
NHL West Division Winners 2020/21 Betting Odds:

Colorado Avalanche:
The favorites to win the West Divison is the Avalanche and I have to agree.
The are a strong team offensively and can roll 4 lines if they breakup the big three of MacKinnon, Landeskog and Rantanen. For depth the Avs also had Kadri and Saad who could be a great #2 line alone.
On defense they have Makar, who is already a star in the league, Devon Toews, Ryan Graves and Samuel Girard. In goal they have Grubauer and Francouz.
With no weaknesses across their lines and the continued improvement of all the youngsters on the team the Colorado Avalanche are my pick to win the West Divison

Vegas Golden Knights:
The Knights are another deep team. Their top six is as good as any in the league. Their “4th” line is a pain in the ass to play against with Reaves and Carrier who will wear you down.
Already a strong defensive group the Knights added Pietrangelo who only deepens the Knights backend.
In goal is where it may cause issues. They will be going with Lehner as their number 1 but Fleury is still more than capable of being the guy.
They could push for the West title but they aren’t as complete a team as the Avalanche.

St. Louis Blues:
The Blues lead their division last season and the entire Western Conference. This year the team will be without Pietrangelo and Steen, who retired, but added Krug and Hoffman as replacements.
In goal Binnington is the starter they don’t have a proven backup but with a shorter season Binnington will be fine.
Another team who could challenge for the West lead but moving forward without their captain and Steen will give some problems.

Minnesota Wild:
The Wild will have some issues this season. They have lots of new faces so it may take some time for them all to get familiar with each other.
They are led at forward by Zach Parise and Ryan Suter on defense. Bringing in goalie Cam Talbot is a good move.
All the new faces will be a speedbump and their best players aren’t getting any younger. I don’t see the Wild even making the playoffs.

Arizona Coyotes:
The Coyotes are a team that seems to have a nice mix of veterans and youngsters. Keller is going to be a star, Schmaltz and Garland are also in their future plans. Kessel and Brassard and some reliable vets who will help the kids along.
Ekman-Larsson is great, Chychrun has potential and Hjalmarrson, Demers and Goligoski are steady.
They have a good set of goalies with Kuemper and Raanta. I don’t see them winning the division but I also don’t see them finishing in last.

San Jose Sharks:
The Sharks lost one legend and brought back another . Thornton is now a Maple Leaf and Marleau has rejoined the Sharks.
On defense is where this team shines. Burns, Karlsson and Vlasic are all amazing defensemen and if they can stay healthy they can carry this team. Couture, Kane and Hertl will be their top offensive guys.
Adding Dubnyk will help push Jones for starts. Both can be number 1’s but who ultimately gets the job is anyones guess

Los Angeles Kings:
Another year and yet another aging Kings squad. Kopitar and Carter are still decent forwards but help is on the way. Byfield, Vilardi and Turcotte are the future of this team.
Defense doesn’t look to be a strong point on this team. Doughty is amazing but he can only do so much. Maatta will help but they need more
Quick is still the goalie and he should see a decreased work load which will keep him fresh.

Anaheim Ducks:
The Ducks are going to struggle. They lack forward depth which is crucial, their defense is ok but don’t have a true star and in goal Gibson starts with Miller the backup.
Getzlaf is still a great player and has had an amazing career but he’s getting older. They will be fighting to stay out of last place but having a bad year will get them a higher draft pick and this team needs to embrace a tank and move forward.
