2 tips last night and we went 2-0.

First we had the Panthers to beat the Islanders and they did 3-1.  This was a close game and the first goal didn’t come until halfway through the 2nd period.  The Isles answered early in the 3rd and the Panthers responded 30 seconds later.  Tkachuk scored the empty net goal at the end for the win.

Next we had the Rangers to beat the Wild and they won 7-3.  The Rangers had only 8 shots in the 1st period but were able to score 3 times.  Kreider scored twice and Panarin scored and added 3 helpers.

The Leafs picked up their first win when they beat the Caps 3-2 staying under the 6.5 line.  Matthews scored as did Tavares.  The Sens scored 1st but the Sabres responded with 4 unanswered and they won 4-1.

The Pens went to work against the Coyotes winning 6-2.  Crosby had a goal and 2 assists, Malkin, Guentzel and Rust all scored and Letang had 2 assists.  The Flyers won 5-2 and the team gave new coach Tortorella the game puck.  The Flames beat the Avs 5-3 which was the first time they won a season opener since 2009.

A slower night of hockey with only 4 games.

Lightning vs Blue Jackets

The Lightning have played once this season and they lost 3-1 to the Rangers.  This is the Jackets home opener, they lost their first game to the Canes 4-1.

With the Lightning looking for thier first win and the and the Jackets at home also looking for one,  this game could be a close one.  I would lean towards a Lightning win but it would have to be regulation and I can’t back that with the moves the Jackets made and the expectations the team has.

Canadiens vs Red Wings

The Habs had a big win against their rivals the Leafs in their first game.  This is the Wings first game of the season.

The Habs should have the momentum after their first game but anytime they play the Leafs it’s a different team that shows up.  The Wings made some moves in the off-season and are, on paper, a much better team this year than they were last.

I feel like this could go either way.  If forced to pick I would take the Wings to win but it would have to be regulation.  With it being their season opener I’m not comfortable taking that with nothing to look back on.

Rangers vs Jets

The Rangers looked great last night.  They are 2-0 on the season and both wins were against strong teams,  the Lightning and Wild.

I want to take the Rangers here but the played in Minnesota last night and then had a flight to Winnipeg and play again tonight.

But for the 2nd game in a row the Rangers are the dogs.  I don’t have high hopes for the Jets this season.  I think it’s worth taking the Rangers here.

Hurricanes vs Sharks

The Canes are going to be a powerhouse this season.  They won the Metro Divison and were 2nd overall in the East last year. They have played one game this season and the beat the Jackets 4-1.

The Sharks have played twice this season losing both to the Preds but both games were in Prague.  With them making their home opener today will that give them enough of a boost?  I want to take the Canes here but it would have to be in regulation and with the Sharks at home and winless they may make this a game.

I’m sure I’ll regret this but I have to skip it.

I think that with Laine’s injury and Tarasov again on goal… the Lightning will take their first win.

i looked for different ways to attack the carolina/sharks game ultimately landing on sharks team total under 2.5 at -120. a close second was looking at goalie props and saw raanta saves at 24.5 with the over -105 and under -120. in my case i’d be interested in the over and was curious if anyone had any opinion on what the better value would be. Specifically if you liked a team total under, would you like to bet that at -120 or would the opposing goalies over on saves at -105 be the better value in your mind?
