Only 1 game yesterday and we didn’t have a tip.

The Canadiens were in Buffalo to play the Sabres.  This game was tied at 1 each after the 1st.  It wasn’t until the 3rd when the Canadiens scored twice and won 3-1.  The Sabres outshot the Habs 37-27 but just couldn’t beat Allen.

16 games today.  Every team in the league is playing tonight. So let’s get to it.

Leafs vs Capitals Betting Tips:

After starting the season with a hat trick in consecutive games, Matthews hasn’t gotten a point in the 3 games that followed and the Leafs have gone 1-2.

The Caps haven’t been good.  They are 1-2-1 and their 3 losses came against the Penguins, Sens and in overtime vs the Habs.

The Leafs should use this game to start a win streak against a struggling Caps team.
But their road record, although only a couple games, hasn’t been that good losing to the Panthers and beating the Lightning in overtime.  The Caps will need to snap their losing skid and doing so against the Leafs would be a huge momentum boost for them.

Ducks vs Jackets Betting Tips:

I have no idea who wins this game.

I would say it should be the Jackets as they are at home and have won their last 2.

The Ducks are 1-4 so far this season and are on the road where they have gone 0-2.  They are ranked 28th in GPG with 2.20 and 13th in GAPG with 3.00.  So as you can see those stats don’t equal success.

But the Jackets Laine is dealing with an injury after getting hit high in the game against the Flames.

Sabres vs Senators Betting Tips:

The Sabres played yesterday and lost.   They outshot the Habs but just couldn’t get the offense going.  Levi is out and Comrie played last night so they may start Luukkonen.

The Sens are 3-2 and are tied for 3rd in GPG with 4.20, 13th in GAPG and 2nd in shots allowed.  They have beat the Lightning, Capitals and Flyers and lost to the Hurricanes and Wings.

Hard to tell how the Sabres will be playing on back to back nights.  So I’m staying away.   Although with the Sens home record of 3-1 I would lean their way but would have to be in regulation

Hurricanes vs Lightning Betting Tips:

This game could be a high scoring one.

The Canes have lost their last 2 but still scored 4 times in each game and are averaging 4.50 GPG.  But they are ranked last in GAPG with 5.00.

The Lightning are 2-2-2 and have scored at least 3 in goals in 4 of the 6 games played. They score 3.33 per game and are ranked 28th in GAPG with 4.00.

Everything points to a high scoring game.

Devils vs Canadiens Betting Tips:

The Devils are 2-1-1 and haven’t looked nearly as good as they can be.  They lost in a shootout to the Coyotes, lost to the Panthers,  beat the Islanders in overtime and won against the Wings. The have the top ranked power play and 8th best GPG.

The Habs played yesterday and won against the Sabres to move to 3-1-1 on the season.

We would have to take the Devils in regulation and that would just get us to our minimum.  With them on the road I’ll just avoid this game.

Stars vs Penguins Betting Tips:

The Stars have a good record so far going 3-0-1.  Only concern I have is that 3 of their 4 games have needed extra time.

The Pens have dropped their last two games and are now 2-3.

Both teams are expected to be playoff teams so it’s only a matter of time until we see if they are the real deal or not.

I don’t know who wins this game.  The odds are really close for this game which means that the sportsbooks are in the same boat as me.

Sharks vs Panthers Betting Tips:

The Sharks are the last team in the league without a win.

The Panthers are 2-3 and are really missing Montour and Ekblad.

They should win this game at home against a winless Sharks team.  But they haven’t looked very good so far this year.  This could be a game where they get back on track but who knows.  They beat the Devils and Leafs but lost to the Wild, Jets and Canucks.

I want to take the Panthers here but they haven’t shown us anything to give us confidence in them so I have to pass on this game.

Avalanche vs Isles Betting Tips:

The Avalanche are off to a perfect start going 5-0.  They have beat some good teams to get to this point too.

The Isles are 2-1-1 and are doing what they do defensively ranking 7th in GAPG with 2.50.  They are home for this one and they have gone 2-0-1 in New York.

I like the Avs to win here but the Isles are a pain in the ass to play against as they can keep games low scoring taking away any advantage teams have offensively.

Kraken vs Wings Betting Tips:

The Kraken are off to a rough start going 1-4-1.  Their schedule has been brutal too with games against the Knights, Avs and Rangers.  But their win came against the Hurricanes.

The Wings are off to a good start going 5-1 and are riding a 5 game win streak into this one.

Larkin and DeBrincat have been great for them. In their last game DeBrincat scored a hat trick and added an assist, and Larkin had a goal and an assist.  Those two are 1-2 in the league in scoring.

The Wings at home and playing as well as they have against a team who is averaging only 1.83 GPG.  If you take away the 7 goals they put up against the Canes, the Kraken have 4 goals in 5 games.

Bruins vs Blackhawks Betting Tips:

The Bruins are 5-0 and ranked tied for 13th in GPG and 1st in GAPG.

The Hawks are 2-4 and have played only 1 game in Chicago.

The Bruins, so far, seem to be handling the losses of Bergeron and Krejci just fine.  Pastrnak and Marchand are averaging over a point per game.

The Hawks are going to be bad this season as they look towards the future.  But with this being only their 2nd home game they may have a strong effort being able to stay in their own homes between games.

The odds for this game are so bad that it’s unplayable.

Blues vs Jets Betting Tips:

This is a tough game to predict.

The Blues are 2-1-1 but are on the road where they have gone 0-0-1.

The Jets are 2-3 and at home where they are 1-2.

The Jets score more than the Blues but the Blues allow less than the Jets.

I just haven’t seen anything from either of these teams to make me want to tip them.  After they play some more games hopefully we can see what they are capable of.

Oilers vs Wild Betting Tips:

I’m in the same boat as Graeme for the Oilers.  It’s best to avoid their games.

They are so hard to predict when on paper they are a great team but can’t seem to put it together.  Even worse news for them is McDavid is out a couple weeks.

The Wild are 2-2-1 so basically playing .500 hockey.

Easy skip for me.

Canucks vs Predators Betting Tips:

Another game with a team I avoid.

The Canucks are 3-2 but have played only once at home.  After beating the Oilers twice to start the season they have gone 1-2 since.

The Preds are anyone’s guess.  They are 3-3.  With them at home I would give them the advantage but I’m not tipping them.

Rangers vs Flames Betting Tips:

The Rangers are 3-2 and are ranked 1st in shots allowed per game. They are on the road where they have gone 2-1.  Panarin leads the team in points but Zibanejad, Kreider and Fox are all averaging a point per game.

The Flames are 2-3-1 and are ranked 22nd in GPG and 24th in GAPG.   Being ranked in the bottom 3rd of the league in both of those categories isn’t a good thing.

The Flames are a tough team to predict.  Huberdeau is playing well with 2 goals and 2 assists but the team is allowing more goals overall than they score so they’ll need to tighten up defensively as the season moves on.  This is only their 2nd home game and they won the 1st 5-3 vs the Jets.

I’m passing on this one.

Coyotes vs Kings Betting Tips:

The Coyotes are 3-2 after winning their last 2 games.

The Kings are 2-2-1 and lost their last game 4-2 against the Bruins.  The Kings have lost all 3 games at home this season.

These teams play each other again on Friday.   With the Kings looking to snap this home losing skid they should view this game against the Coyotes as a way to get out of their funk.  But the Coyotes will have momentum on their side.

With their home struggles and the Coyotes on a win streak, it’s a pass for me.

Flyers vs Knights Betting Tips:

The Flyers have been a surprise so far this season going 3-1-1.  They are tied for 13th in GPG and 9th in GAPG.

The Knights have looked amazing so far.  They are 6-0 and are ranked 5th in GPG with 4.00 and 4th in GAPG with 1.83.

It’s really hard to bet against the Knights right now.  The slow start I expected after winning the cup hasn’t happened and they are cruising along.

Would have to take the Knights -1.5 which isn’t a bad play as all of their wins but won would have covered the spread.  But the payout isn’t worth the risk in my opinion.

I found similar to Scott. I gave this big card a lot of time yesterday and found little. I’d leap for Detroit to win except they’re playing their 3rd game in 4 days. So is Montreal, but New Jersey hasn’t clicked yet. Boston is on their last game of a road trip, against a weak team, they may take the night off and be surprised by a very ambitious Hawks lineup. Many teams are still figuring out their regular season start, and not showing consistency.

To WIN moneyline: Ottawa
Full game OVER 6.0: Carolina/Tampa
3rd Period OVER 1.5: Carolina/Tampa
Leans: Rangers moneyline, Kings puckline

Interesting that the LA Kings have played very tough teams so far, are now at home and face Arizona who have been playing lower 30% teams. Both teams well rested. LA probably wins this, by 3 goals, as the desert dog dream evaporates.

Buffalo is playing their 3rd game in 4 days, it’s a back-to-back, their 4th game in 6 days. Ottawa is at home, just had 2 days off, is playing very well, and will be pissed off that they lost to Detroit (who are one of the leagues best performers right now).

Both the Rangers and Flames are playing out of sync, but I’ve seen Flames games and they’re VERY bad; high turnover rate, bad blind passes, little playmaking to produce high danger shots.

To Score Goal Scorer Player Props

I haven’t had much success to start the season with goal scorers. Have had decent success with shot totals. These guys are too talented shooting percentage wise and their individual expected goal rates have been solid too for them to continue to stay quiet for long.
