It took to double OT but the New York Islanders were able to pull off the big 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning to extend the Eastern Conference finals by at least one more game.

Varlamov pulled off 36 saves in that one. Tampa just couldn’t get past him. In comparison Vasilevskiy made 22 saves.

It wasn’t the prettiest game that’s for sure.

Point didn’t play and that seems to be a big factor in Tampa. They seriously need that dude it looks like. In brighter new Stamkos was back on the ice yesterday and while it’s highly doubtful he plays tonight – you’ve got to think if it goes to Game 7, that dude is making an appearance.

Hockey isn’t a one player game – but it is quite amusing seeing our picks that are completely reliant on one single player.

Real quick – probably too late but could get some in-play action going with Graeme’s US Open Betting Tips. 80/1 winner last year!

Graeme: Like I said in the last recap – it’s hard for me to get motivated when it comes to picking winners when riding the Lightning -1.5 series bet. Based on that I am of course really looking forward to tonights game. I think futures are generally -EV and silly bets to make but when it gets to crunch time – it makes it that much more exciting. I backed the Celtics to win the East for example and to say that Raps game 7 was a wild ride would be an understatement.

Tampa continue to be favourites here by a decent amount.

While I have my bet on Tampa to win the series – if I was betting this one, I’d take the Islanders. Point seems to be that “it” factor for Tampa right now. With him out, if I was betting this game I’d take the Islanders.

So my advice there would be If Point is out take the Islanders to win. It just seems to even things up to where it’s more an +EV bet.

Scott: The Islanders just never give up.  Varlamov made 36 saves and Eberle won it for them in double overtime.

Brayden Point was a surprise scratch for the Lightning as he is still dealing with an injury.  Even without Point the Lightning were controlling the game for the most part.   But again these Isles just never give up.

With the Lightning now seeing that the Isles can force a game 7 with a win here I expect them to come ready for game 6.  After giving him the game off I also expect to see Point back for them.  They can’t allow the Islanders to take it to game 7 where anything can happen.

Lightning win in regulation if Point plays
